I’m sure you’ll agree Birchbox have definitely stepped up their beauty box game this year, not only do they continue to deliver fabulous curations and partnerships they’re also leading the way by thinking outside of the box something which always impresses me. This month they’ve gone a little outside of their usual remit and for the first time ever  subscribers will be able to opt in for the Stylist *Guest Editor’ Box or the *Back To Basics Box making the whole beauty box experience a little more customised, something which I always welcome! There’s a wealth of quality brands on board as well as a balanced line up within each of the boxes so whatever takes your fancy you won’t be disappointed. Here’s a run down of what you can expect to see inside each of the boxes and my overall thoughts.

The Stylist Guest Editor Box is packed with six deluxe beauty must-haves chosen by Stylist’s Associate Editor (Beauty), Joanna McGarry.

1. 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Glaze – Full Size RRP £19.00
In a generous full size this all-natural, cruelty-free lipstick which comes in adorable packaging benefits from fruity goodness which gives a sheer wash of colour whilst caring for your lips too. I love the peachy/pink colour which makes it ideal for everyday wear.

2. PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Smoothing Blowout Spray(Travel Size 30ml)
This sounds perfect for my hair woes even more so as we approach the colder weather. This cult miracle claims to blot out frizz, protect against heat damage and holds styles for longer. I can’t wait to give this a go!

3. Biorderma Sensiblo H20 – Sample Size 20ml
I’m sure you’ve heard a great deal about Bioderma’s H20 range and they’ll be quite a few who will be eager to try this Micellar Water.  It’s the makeup remover of choice by makeup artists and it’s so gentle on the skin that it won’t sting the eyes and ideal for even the most sensitive skin. It removes makeup in a flash, refreshes your skin and is a great product that will quickly become a staple in your bathroom.

4. Rituals Yogi Flow Foaming Shower Gel – Travel Size 50ml
Given my unmitigated love for Rituals, I was delighted to see a travel sized version of the Yogi Flow Foaming Shower Gel. In a mousse form rather than a gel this feels truly luxurious on the skin and has a  feminine and soft scent which smells really sensual too. It’s a true treat for those cold evenings.

5. When™ Travelmate Sheet Mask – 1 sheet mask
This high-quality face mask uses a bio-cellulose sheet created by fermenting coconut juice. Each sheet contains a high volume of fluid that is very effective in transferring the liquid nutrients to skin due to its ultrafine, three-dimensional structure. Its comfortable and soft texture is designed to perfectly fit all face shapes. With Travelmate, you can soothe the skin damaged by UV rays, wind, dry cabin air and travel fatigue. Its Swiss Alpine herb extracts gently hydrate your skin, and other natural ingredients help you restore moisture and a healthy glow.
Sheet masks have been trending in Korea for quite some time now so it’s great to see this addition inside the box.

6. English Laundry No.7 For Her – Sample Vial
This month’s Beauty Bonus is a long standing favourite ever since I discovered it last year. If you’re a fan of sweet fragrances this hits all the right notes and contains pear, a jasmine blend with gardinia, vanilla and sandalwood. This scent has a lot of body and character and one that you’ll quickly fall in love with!

The Back to Basics box is all about mastering the beauty basics – and that means discovering great products that you can use everyday! This box is packed with six beauty essentials that really work.

1. Eyeko Fat Liquid Eyeliner – Full Size RRP £12.00
New to the Eyeko collection is their Fat Liquid Eyeliner and being a fan of pen type liquid liners over the traditional wands i welcome this back up as I already own this from a previous box! The nib of this eyeliner is built like a chunky felt tip and gives a reasonable thick and thin line. The pigmentation of the eyeliner is very black and striking, something which I really love about this liner.

2.  Bioderma H20Sample size 20ml
This edition also includes a sample of a Bioderma H20 so no one will be missing out on trying this skincare saviour!

3. Regenerate Enamel Science™ Advanced Toothpaste – Travel Size 15ml
This is something that I picked when I built my very own Birchbox at Selfridges so I’m pleased to have another as a back up! This is an advance toothpaste for everyday brushing which claims to not only regenerate enamel, but also strengthens against cavities and restores teeth to their original whiteness.

4. Seche Vite Top Coat – Full Size £9.00
This has to be one of the most hyped up products in the beauty world but unfortunately I’m not a fan but undoubtedly it will be very popular amongst subscribers this month. I like the brush, the consistency and not forgetting the high shine finish but after a few uses I’ve found that it’s turned goopy and thick making it impossible to apply.

5. Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo (Travel Size 40ml) and Conditioner (Sachet Sample 10ml)
Last but not least is a  duo from Beaver Proffessional which promises to gently repair dry and damaged hair, making your hair healthy, soft, and less frizzy. This literally has my name on it!

My Verdict

Whilst both boxes have there own merits and feature two very different menu’s I think for me personally I definitely swayed more towards the Stylist Edition mainly because it featured some of my favorite brands whilst also catering for my likes and needs,  but having said that both editions include a solid line up featuring well-known and emerging brands with the addition of full sized products too so all in all I think they’ve done a great job in curating these. There’s some great travel sized products this month too, something which I’m really pleased to see as I’m got a few trips booked so these will definitely come in useful.

Birchbox as always continue to wow me with their beautiful curations and without fail there’s always something inside that I manage to fall in love with so If you like trying out products from well-known, loved and emerging brands Birchbox is definitely great for this.
