Searching for the best beauty products that work for you can be pretty exhausting however ever since my very first Birchbox landed on my doorstep a few years ago it’s given me access to loads of goodies to trial in the comfort of my own home from both well-known and under-the-radar brands and even today some of those discoveries have remained as staples within my beauty regime. Month on month the new discoveries just keep on coming and excitedly the “Word Up” edition is all about helping us in the search for our ultimate beauty discovery with their word search-designed box being just the starting point for a month that’s all about finding our must-have products.  This month, subscribers get two full sized make up items and a first look at Birchbox’s new skincare collection Arrow in the form of a unique lip balm.

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 4-5 selected hair, make-up and beauty products from well-known brands and emerging brands as well as throwing in a lifestyle extra too. Birchbox is also a full-blown beauty destination where you can purchase all the brands which have been featured in their boxes with an exceptional and very generous reward program.

1.   Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm – Full Size RRP £11.00

Say hello to Arrow, Birchbox’s very own beauty brand that focuses on lightweight. long-wearing make up and refreshing skincare. This month all subscribers can expect to see a full sized Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm that offers something a little different – it delivers PH dependent results which means you’ll have a personalised hue just for you!

Eager to give this a go, my lips transformed into a lovely pink with the added benefit of hydration too. It’s like my natural lip colour only better, perfect for those days when I don’t want too much colour on my lips.

2.   ModelCo More Brows Full Size RRP £13.00

When it comes to eyebrows, I’ve always “played it safe” and stuck with pencils and powders so a gel formula was a little out of my comfort zone. Nevertheless, I’m always happy to have a play when it comes to make up!

The ModelCo More Browns promises to deliver natural-looking, fuller brows instantly with its quick-dry gel formula that contains hair-like particles to create the appearance of fuller, more even eyebrows in one application.

Despite a little hesitance on the gel formula and even after using it the once, I’d say I’m fully converted! What I love about this eyebrow product is that the brush-on fibre gel gives the appearance of fuller, thicker brows instantly although it does take time getting use to. The mini mascara brush makes it really easy to apply and shapes the brows how you want them. The gel applies wet but it dries quickly, allowing your brows to stay in place all day long. I am seriously impressed with this!

3.   Philip B Drop Dead Straightening Baume  – Sample Size 15ml. Full Size £20.00

Philip B is renowned for his line of high quality products packed with pure, natural botanicals and essential oils (and is guaranteed to leave your hair happy!)

This unique, non-chemical straightening treatment promises to easily achieve a perfect, glossy blowout that lasts. With a non-greasy, silicone-free, water-soluble formula, it doesn’t leave hands sticky or slick and even shortens your blow-drying time.

I’m always on the look out for new hair products and things like this really benefit my unruly fizzy hair so I can’t wait to give this a go.

4.   Polaar IceSource Moisturising Gel – Travel Size 25ml. Full Size RRP £25.90

One of the products that had me interested straight away is this Moisturising Gel by Polaar, founded by Daniel Kurbiel during his Arctic expeditions who discovered the unique ability of native plant life to survive in extreme weather conditions thanks to their naturally active ingredients. The collection of products consists of hard-working skincare using concentrated ingredients from these plants to strengthen, purify, and protect your skin in all seasons.

Ideal for both oily and combination skin. the gel primarily injects thirsty skin with moisture and also benefits from a cooling effect for welcome relief for irritable complexions! Formulated using glacier water, thanks to its purifying and mineral-rich properties, this hydrating gel nourishes the skin while protecting it from environmental aggressors.

I can definitely confirm that this feels amazing on the skin and the texture is extremely lightweight but what makes this stand out from what I’m currently using is the cooling effect, it’s so refreshing. The scent is a little overpowering something I wasn’t expecting but for anyone with oily or combination skin, this is a great choice for the warmer months and it works great as a primer too.

5.    Amika Nourishing Mask  Sample Size 20ml. Full Size RRP £19.99

This intense conditioning and repair mask is for all hair types and contains natural ingredients to penetrate the surface of the hair to get to the root, seal split ends, improve shine, elasticity and nourishment. It’s safe for colour treated hair and is also free of parabens, sulfates, and artificial colours.

6.    This Works Sleep Plus Pillow Spray  – Sample Size 5ml. Full Size £16.00

I must admit I generally don’t have a problem falling asleep, I wish I could say the same about getting up in the morning so I’m definitely not the right person to road test this!

This act’s faster then the original spray and aims to help you wake up and feel refreshed. This fast acting natural remedy helps to restore healthy sleep patterns for restless sleepers and is clinically proven to provide a better night’s sleep. It contains a potent blend of Lavender which naturally encapsulates to gradually release aromatherapeutic benefits as you sleep.

My Verdict

The March Birchbox really does intend to do what it sets out and I must say this edition really takes me back to when I first signed up with them as there’s lots of new discoveries and interesting brands to try, all of which I’m really chuffed with and everything’s so spot this month in terms of my likes and needs. If you’re on a beauty discovery this spring then you’ll definitely want to grab this month’s Birchbox as they’ve bundled together a great mix of products from new releases, secret potions and must-have classics that you’ll be able to incorporate into your daily regime effortlessly. Once again they’ve stuck to the theme throughout and in terms of finding what products make my skin and hair happy they’ve pretty much nailed it this month!

Whilst Birchbox send out smaller samples with 1-2 full sized items, in my opinion they are much more consistent and are more likely to send you something that you feel the need to purchase.
