I love fancy beauty products just like the next person but I’ve got to admit you can’t beat those essentials that you turn to everyday and this month’s ‘Back to basics’ Glossybox delivers exactly that in the form of powered-up basics that can be easily incorporated into our current routines. Covering a good balance on the beauty front from brands we love and know in addition to some new discoveries too this month’s edit touches on make-up, body and skin care – it’s a good one and features mainly full sizes in addition to some travel-friendly products too .

If you’re new to Glossybox, it’s a monthly subscription box that comes packed with both deluxe-sized and full-size products and covers all areas of beauty from skin care, hair, nails, make-up and everything else in between from brands we all love and know as well as those hidden gems too! The box costs £13.25 per month and contains contents which always exceed the overall subscription price.

1.  Dr.PAWPAW Original Balm – Full Size 25ml RRP £6.95

I’m a huge fan of the Dr Paw Paw Balm and this multitasker will not fail to solve some of those daily beauty woes and is made from a variety of natural ingredients including Pawpaw (Papaya), Olive Oil and Aloe Vera Oil.  This versatile balm can be used on dry areas, as a lip balm, moisturiser, cuticle cream, smoothing the hair or to treat skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. It’s even gentle enough to use on a baby’s bottom as a nappy cream which really gives you an idea of how natural and gentle the formula is.

2. Scrub Love Active Charcoal Body Scrub – Travel Size 100g. Full size 200g RRP £13.95

Coffee scrubs seem to be everywhere right now and while I do love them I’m so pleased that we have something new to trial on the exfoliating front! This  body scrub is formulated with gentle clays, active charcoal, antioxidant rich oils and avocado & aloe Vera to clear and soothe the skin and also absorbs oils and impurities – it’s a very generous travel sized sample too!

3. Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet – Travel Size 10ml

With a gel-creme-mousse texture this lightweight yet hydrating moisturiser is perfect for this time of the year and is something that I already own and only recently dug out for spring! The non-greasy formula has immediate soothing properties and leaves the skin refreshed and comfortable and is blended with organic grape water to hydrate and calming chamomile. It’s also suitable for all skin types.

4. RUBY’s super silky powder blush – Full Size RRP €14.99

When it comes to make-up products that I use every single day blusher is definitely on top of the list and I really wanted to love the Ruby Super Silky Powder Blush but it’s not a shade I’ll be able to pull off as it looks slightly orange against my pale complexion! Having said that though I can see this looking more appropriate if I had a tan which isn’t going to be anytime soon judging by the weather but I’ll definitely revisit this blush in the summer!

5. Girl Meets Brush Eyeshadow Blending Brush – RRP £7.95

The Girl Meets Brush EyeShadow Blending Brush is described as a domed but soft bristled brush which will soften & blend out the eyeshadow in the socket line & out to the outer edges of the eye.

My Verdict

Basic beauty products are great for every day but boosted basics are even better and this month’s Glossybox delivered exactly that! Their May box is such a good all-rounder and I think all the products they handpicked are the perfect fit for their Back to Basic’s edition. Line-up wise there was a couple of products that I already own and use so I wasn’t so excited to see them inside my box but I guess there’s no harm in having some back-ups! Other than the blusher which turned out to be way too bright for my pale complexion I’ll definitely be able to make use out of the remainder. The product I’m most excited to try is the Detoxifying Activated Charcoal Body Scrub by Scrub Love as it’s nice to be able to try out something new on the exfoliating front other than coffee scrubs which seem to be everywhere right now! Value-wise, the overall total isn’t going to blow you away but there’s a good mix of both full sized and travel samples but most of all I love that the majority of the products can be easily squeezed into our exisitng regimes!
