If there was ever a Love Me Beauty Edit which had my had my name written all over all it, I’d say the August edition was definitely the one and if you’re wondering why… well it’s filled with make-up, all of which are good sized samples from Kat Von D and also welcomes the newest debut to the UK, Buxom which has recently launched at Debenhams so it’s really exciting to see some of their products on board as it’s such a great way to get to know them that little better!
Each month the Love Me Beauty membership is worth 60 credits and you simply chose the items you want inside your box from a selection of products ranging from hair, body, nails, skincare and make-up with majority of the items being full sized or travel sized. Here’s a roundup of just some of the new additions which you can expect to see inside the August Edit:
Up first inside my bag is the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in the shade Cathedral (Travel size 20 credits), a matte coco rose which is just perfection and ideal for every day wear. This long-wear, pigment-rich lipstick is formulated with Color Cushion Technology to keep your pout feeling comfy and velvety soft. I found this to be creamy, easy to apply and it wore really, really well too!
The product that got me excited the most this month is the Kat Von D Setting Powder (Travel Size 25 Credits 1.4g) which benefits from a universal translucent shade and is designed to lock your base in place all day as well as bluring the appearance with a velvet-matte finish. I wasted no time trying this as soon as it arrived and my first impressions of this powder were mixed. The formula is incredibly lightweight and blurs out imperfections for a super flawless finish however, I did notice that if you layered this on too much it does make your skin look overly dry. Also, while this powder claims to be translucent and friendly for all skin tones, I found that it had somewhat of a lightening and brightening effect on my face. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very welcomed effect but I imagine this may make some skin tones look washed out. I guess the lesson here is a little goes a long way and to use a light hand!
I know not everyone likes seeing perfume samples inside beauty boxes but I really don’t mind them as not only are they handbag and travel friendly but it’s a great way to judge a scent before you splurge on the full size. I’ve got to admit I wasn’t even aware that Kat Von D ventured into scents so this was a lovely surprise! I received Kat Von D Saint Eau de Parfum which form parts of the Saint and Sinner collection – Sinner is also available via Love Me Beauty and the sample is a pretty decent size too. Described as a dreamy, romantic and alluring, floral fragrance, this gourmand perfume fuses jasmine and Tiaré flower top notes with a delicious heart of mandarin, caramel, and sparkling Mirabelle plum. Vanilla, sandalwood, and creamy musk build to the romance of the fragrance. Saint is a poetic exploration of the lesser-known, softer side of Kat Von D! I love the story behind this and it’s pretty spot on in terms of the scents I usually go for so I’ll definitely be adding this to my wishlist – it really is love in a bottle!
Moving onto Buxom Cosmetics, we have the Full-On Lip Polish(Travel size 15 credits) in the shade Dolly which has just recently launched in the UK! Described as a U.S. best-selling, this sheer, shimmering lip polish makes lips look fuller and more voluptuous and also includes Vitamins A and E to help keep lips soft, smooth and protected, with a refreshing tingling sensation, The shade is a sheer wearable pink shiny gloss however the one issue I have is that it’s a bit too tingly which is funny because I usually love menthol lip gloss – the tingle just keeps going and going and going! Not sure I love that prolonged sensation but It did appear to plump my lips up a little which was nice.
Lastly and another U.S. best seller is the Buxom Cosmetics Lash Mascara (Travel size 5ml 15 credits), a vitamin enriched, clump resistant formula that deepens. darkens and thickens lashes while the hourglass shaped brush evenly coats lashes, from root to tip, for perfect separation and definition. It alsio claims to be longwearing, vitamin enriched, smudge and clump resistant.
My Verdict
This month’s Love Me Beauty selection certainly piqued my interest a hell of a lot more than usual mainly because it contained products that I’ve never tried before which in turn really put that excitement back in as their selections as of late were becoming a little repetitive plus did I mention that all the samples are absolutely adorable too – I just love bite sized beauty as it’s so convenient for traveling and the handbag! It was also lovely to try out a couple of bits from Buxom, I’ve not had much experience with the brand but the samples featured were the ideal size to get to know them that little better. So as you’ve probably gathered, I’ve really enjoyed delving into this month’s bag and it’s definitely an edit you won’t want to miss out on especially if you favour make-up over skin care!
