Eeek! October just got hell of a lot more exciting! It’s a Mermaid vs Unicorn takeover at Glossybox HQ and I absolutely love that Glossybox have brightened up the month of October with two very magical box designs for their Mermaid Vs Unicorns theme – they really are both ridiculously pretty and I don’t think I would have even cared if my mermaid box arrived empty which of course wasn’t the case at all! Anyway putting my love for these whimsical creatures aside for just a moment, this month’s box really has it all from the colour scheme chosen for the box right through to contents nestled inside which by the way consists of all make-up to channel your inner mermaid and just fuels my love for this month’s box even more plus did I mention everything single product is full sized so that’s another bonus – lots to love this month right?

In other news, Glossybox have another trick treat up their sleeve this month and will be releasing a limited number of mermaid and unicorn slogan jumpers on the 11th October for £29.99 via their website.

If you’re new to Glossybox, it’s a monthly subscription box that comes packed with both deluxe-sized and full-size products and covers all areas of beauty from skin care, hair, nails, make-up and everything else in between from brands we all love and know as well as those hidden gems too! The box costs £13.25 per month and contains contents which always exceed the overall subscription price.

Without further ado here’s what I received inside my Mermaid Glossybox:

Kicking off the mermaid theme and something that really looks at home is the Mermaid vs Unicorns Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palette (RRP £4.00) and as the name suggests this palette is inspired by the colours related to mermaids and unicorns with hues of greens and blues and on the other side there are pinks, purples and dark blues – they are so, so pretty especially all the blues which mimic colours of the sea. You really can’t go wrong with this palette, it’s fun, enables you to create a variety of looks and it’s super budget friendly.

Up next we have the Sleek Crème to Powder Blush in the shade Pink Peony (Full size £5.99- shades may vary) which starts off as a cream with an intense shot of colour (yikes!) but it does eventually blend down to a light powdery effect (phew!) and gives a rosy flush of colour. I’m not usually a fan of these types of blushers but I really like this one by Sleek although I’d probably go for a slightly lighter shade from the collection.

As we approach the colder months, lip balm is a staple within my handbag and the SportFX Moisturising Lip Balm (Full size  RRP £4.99) in Candy Floss not only smells good enough to eat but it’s been exclusively created for this month’s box. Described as an instant relief for dry lips, it’s enriched with natural oils, a vitamin complex, shea butter and also benefits from SPF15 makes for instant protection against harsh UV rays.

Oh Glossybox you really know how to win me over! Sometimes it really is the little things in life which get me excited the most and the Kawaii Enterprise Brush Cleansing Egg (RRP £7.99) is just one of the reasons why I love this month’s line-up. Available in two different colours (unicorn boxes will feature the pink one), this brush cleaner slides right on your fingers and features two sets of grooves so you can deep clean all of your brushes throughly, quickly and easily! Bye Bye wrinkly hands!

Lastly and the only dud inside the box due to the shade is the Lord & Berry Magic Brow pencil (RRP £14.00). I do own the darker version and use it occasionally when my ABH one runs out! The brow pencil features three highly pigmented colours that enhance and define the natural shape of your brows.

My Verdict

As you can probably tell from my review, I was really happy with every single aspect of this month’s Glossybox from the theme right through to the products they picked out for us and combine all that together I think you’ll agree this was a very successful interpretation of a mermaid themed box although you could argue the brow pencil didn’t fit in as well as the other products. Other than that, there’s many reasons why this month’s box really shines, I love that they skipped the skin and hair care this month and instead we have an all make-up line-up which is always very welcomed and secondly everything’s full sized so it’s good value too. In terms of favourites, the blush, lip balm and the brush cleaner are true winners and although I play it safe when it comes to eyeshadow shades, the Makeup Revolution palette is absolutely gorgeous so I’m going to try and make this work for me somehow! All in all, job well done Glossybox – you guys definitely brightened up my October!

Don’t forget the mermaid and unicorn slogan jumpers will be available to buy from the 11th October for £29.99 via the Glossybox website.
