For October, Birchbox have teamed up with the amazing guys at Coppafeel, a cancer awareness charity with a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and this month’s box has a special place in heart as my mum very recently went through a whirlwind of hell due to that evil C word but thanks to early detection she’s now got the all clear so checking for any abnormalities and getting them looked into even if you’re not sure is so, so important. Anyway on a brighter note and despite the fact I didn’t really have high hopes for this month’s line-up when I saw the spoilers, it actually turned out to be a great edit with a good balanced beauty menu with a beautiful designed box to match the theme.

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 5 luxe beauty treats from well-known brands and emerging brands and occasionally you may also receive a lifestyle item too. Birchbox is also a full-blown beauty destination where you can purchase all the brands which have been featured in their boxes.

Here’s what I received inside my October box:

Up first and a very apt addition inside this month’s box is the Anatomicals Grab your Melons Shower Gel (Full size 50ml RRP £1.50), a delicious scented shower gel which not only cares for your skin but it also promises to lift the mood. I absolutely adore the scent, it’s really fruity and fun without being too overwhelming. As always in true Anatomicals style, the packaging is wonderful to say the least, I love the comical statements!

Up next and my least favourite item mainly due to the fact it’s been featured so many times from box to box is the Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash (50ml Travel size). Recommended for all skin types, the 99% natural formula is creamy and gentle enough for drier skins whilst at the same time the ingredients help to thoroughly cleanse the skin without stripping making it ideal for those with oil prone skin too. Containing a wonderful blend of skin calming essential oils that help to balance troublesome skin, I’ve previously trialled this and it did leave my skin feeling clean and foamed up really well using the tiniest amount.

Moving onto make-up and something that really grabbed my attention is an exclusive sneak peek from Benefit in the form of their brand new POREfessional Pearl Primer (Sample size 3ml) which contains an added dose of soft pearly pink pigment to impart a brighter, smoother, more awake complexion. I’m not a fan of the original POREfessional but I’m looking forward to giving this one a go.

Another exciting product that made its way inside my box is the ecoTools Colour Perfecting Minis (RRP £6.70), a convenient set of mini sponges which are colour coded to match colour correcting concealers and are designed with EcoFoam® Technology to flawlessly correct your complexion.

Lastly is the ModelCo Contour Stick so depending on what you chose you’ll either get this or the mascara. I’ve got to admit I don’t contour much and I definitely don’t contour on work days as I rather sleep for an extra 10 mins but this handy chubby stick is so easy peezy to use. The creamy, lightweight texture promises to glide over bare skin or foundation to seamlessly define and shape your features and although this looked alarmingly dark it does blend out very smoothly and easily leaving just a faint and not so obvious finish.

My Verdict

This month’s Birchbox not only supports such a great cause but my contents turned out to be pretty awesome too which I wasn’t expecting at all due to the spoiler so it was a lovely surprise to find a handful of products that I actually like and will almost certainly be able to make use out of (isn’t it great when that happens!). Line-up wise, it was nice to see more make up than the usual skin and body stuff plus the samples were pretty generous in size (2 full sizes – yay!) apart from the Benefit POREfessional which was a little on the teeny side but having said that I’m really looking forward to trying out this newer version. All in all, there so much to love this month from the collaboration with Coppafeel, the theme, the awareness raising right through to the contents – did I mention the box is so beautiful too – it’s another keeper!

If you like trying out products from well-known, loved and emerging brands then Birchbox is definitely great for this. The subscription itself is affordable and the monthly rotation of treats introduces you to brands and products you might not have otherwise found, all of which can be purchased within their online shop.

November Sneak Peek: Next month’s selection of beauty treats have been handpicked from the Vogue 100 Beauty Hall of Fame – chosen by Vogue Beauty Editors past and present!
