I’m back today to share a quick unboxing of the latest Birchbox for December and in light of the season it even came packaged like an early Christmas present! This month they’ve collaborated with British designer Matthew Williamson and as you can see they’ve really pushed the boat out in terms of the design – this one sure is a keeper! Line-up wise, the box came with a host of goodies to help us feel festive like warm fragrances, a red lippy, hydrating skin care to fight off the cold weather and not one but three full sizes which doesn’t happen often!

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 5 luxe beauty treats from well-known brands and emerging brands and occasionally you may also receive a lifestyle item too. Birchbox is also a full-blown beauty destination where you can purchase all the brands which have been featured in their boxes.

Here’s what I received inside my *December box (Contents may vary. Please see the December spoiler post to see what you may receive)

Up first and a firm favourite out of the box is The Ritual of Ayurveda Foaming Shower Gel (Travel Size 50ml RRP £4.50), I absolutely love every single thing I’ve tried from this brand from their shower foams to their home diffusers!  This foaming shower gel features a mix of Ayurvedic ingredients such as Sweet Almond Oil and Indian Rose and together they create somewhat of sensual and romantic fragrance.  I’m already thinking about picking up the body cream so I can smell like this for the rest of the year!

This month all subscribers got to choose a lipstick from two variations and shade wise I’m pretty delighted that the LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in confident (Full size RRP £6.50) made its way inside my box as it’s the perfect pop of red for this time of the year and all-year round really! In case you didn’t know LOC (Love of Colour) is Birchbox’s in-house make-up range! The formula is creamy and smooth but I wasn’t impressed by the overall wear performance but nonetheless it’s very wearable.

Sticking to make-up, all subscribers can also expect to see an Eye Brush (RRP £4.99) from another one of my favourite brands Spectrum Collections! Described as the perfect size and shape to fit the contour of your eyes, this synthetic brush can be used with powder or cream shadows to shade and define your eyelids for a foolproof smokey eye or simple wash of colour.

Moving onto skin care up we have the Nip & Fab Kale Fix Moisturiser (Sample size 10ml) which contains kale, watercress and almond oil to help enrich the skin with vitamins and protect against external factors that dries the skin. This also contains aloe vera and shea butter to improve the texture of your skin and keep it hydrated. I love the refreshing cucumber scent but I found the thick formula to be way too rich for my oily skin.

Lastly out of the box and my least favourite sample is the Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo (Travel size 40ml). I have nothing against the brand but I sampled this a couple of years ago and it stripped somewhat of my hair colour so isn’t something I’ll be using again. This paraben free and detoxing shampoo promises to be gentle in formula but tough on grime and deeply cleanses with a blend of mild ingredients to exfoliate your hair, rejuvenating every strand for purified, soft results. Can be used as little as once a month!

My Verdict

And that about wraps things up! The stunning design and collaboration with Matthew Williamson, the Rituals Foaming Shower Gel, the Spectrum Collections Brush and the LOC lipstick was enough to make this a great Birchbox for me but I have to say, the real winner was the shower gel as I love bath products and the fact that I can easily incorporate this into my daily routine. The only items I won’t be able to make use out of is the moisturiser and the shampoo but other than that I’m really happy with what I received and value-wise the line-up included three full sizes which doesn’t happen often so that was a lovely bonus. Here’s to hoping the January box is just as good!
