Attention all mermaids! Look what’s finally arrived! I’m a little late to the party this month with my Glossybox review, not sure what happened but my box turned up later than usual but it’s safe to say it was so worth the wait. With summer actually doing its thing for once (someone please send rain!) this month’s Under the Sea edition is all about the delights of the tropics and is absolutely rocking those mermaid and beach vibes and is an edit that most certainly stands out from the rest this month. Line-up wise I like that they’ve focused on fuss-free beauty for those hot scorching days regardless of whether your off abroad or making the most of the sunshine here in the UK. I’m also a little obsessed with the box design this month and the shell brush which of course ties in perfectly with the theme.

If you’re new to Glossybox, it’s a monthly subscription box that comes packed with both deluxe-sized and full-size products and covers all areas of beauty from skin care, hair, nails, make-up and everything else in between from brands we all love and know as well as those hidden gems too! The box costs £13.25 per month and contains contents which always exceed the overall subscription price.

Here’s what I received inside my July edition:

Up first and a brand new discovery for me is the Senhor Do Bonfim Sea Water Hair Spray (Full size RRP £16.00) and considering the theme, I think this fits in perfectly to channel your inner mermaid! This hair spray which by the way smells amazing enhances your curls without using any heat and you simply spray it on damp hair and on dry hair. You can also twist the hair for some added curls! I’m a little shocked at the price for this 50ml!

After just one spray of the Bilou Coco Cocktail 2 in 1 Body Spray (Full size £3.99), I’m immediately transported to the beach with a Pina Colada in hand! I’ve only tried a few products from this brand and so far I’ve not been disappointed so I was delighted to see this on board! Described as gentle and nourishing, not only does this create a subtle fragrance and smooth the skin thanks to the moisturising ingredients it also contains a special combination of active ingredients to ensure a mild and soothing deodorising effect, meaning it can be used as both a nourishing perfume spray and a deodorant.

I think the only item which felt a little out of place for this month’s theme is the Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste (sample size) – I’m guessing mermaids have to brush their teeth too! It’s not the most exciting addition and although I’ve received this exact toothpaste in other boxes they do come in really handy as a back-up when you forget to stock up at home! This product in particular does a host of innovative stuff such as utilising clinically proven, patented NR-5™ technology based upon years of extensive research which effectively recreates the mineral that tooth enamel is made of, working to reverse the early erosion process and protect against cavities, acid and decay.

Sometimes it really is the small things in life that bring a smile to your face and the Inuwet Cheek Shell Brush (full size RRP £13.20) is quite the showstopper amongst the line up. The brush is vegan, cruelty-free and can be used to highlight and contour. The quality of the brush is really good as are the bristles.

Up next is the Oriflame 5 in 1 Wonder Lash Mascara (full size RRP £9.00) which sadly didn’t live up to its 5 in 1 claims. Despite promising volume, length and strength, while curling and nourishing your eyelashes, it didn’t fulfil any of these and it was only after layering this mascara on that I finally saw some visible results – would I use this again? Probably not.

Lastly and an extra treat this month is the Hawaiian Tropic Duo Defence Sun Lotion SPF 30 (sample sachet 7.4ml), their first anti-pollution sunscreen which helps to protect skin against the damaging effects of the sun and pollution and features the signature Hawaiian Tropic scent. Formulated with green tea extract to form a protective anti-pollution layer on your skin. The formula is infused with mango, guava, papaya, and passion fruit and provides indulgent protection that instantly transports you to the tropics.

My Verdict

Obviously, I loved the whole under the sea concept and would recommend this month’s box to any fellow mermaid or mermaid enthusiast out there! Apart from the mascara which failed on all 5 of its claims and the toothpaste which didn’t fit in with the theme, the remainder of this month’s line up will not fail to bring those summer vibes to you – you just need to take a whiff of that body spray and let it transport you far, far, away! I’m not sure if the extra treat is going to be a regular thing but I think it’s a nice added bonus. If you haven’t guessed already, the body spray and the shell brush were my absolute favourites this month and whilst I’m not a big fan of salt sprays I think I might have to give it a go as it’s such a nightmare blow-drying and straightening my hair in this weather – it never stays straight either arghhhh!
