After last month’s exceptional celebratory box, Birchbox had a tough job on their hands to beat it and unfortunately for me that rings very true. Whilst I like the idea behind this month’s Say Yes to Adventure’ theme, unfortunately I just wasn’t wowed by my contents which of course does happen from time to time as it would be impossible to please everyone every month. Nonetheless their July edition is all about encouraging us to be bold and to try something new and contains two make-up items alongside some skin and body care.

If you’re new to Birchbox they are one of the main leaders in the beauty box subscription market. Each month they’ll send you 5 deluxe sample and travel size beauty products (including the occasional full-size!) You can expect a mix of make-up, skincare, body, and haircare to upgrade your beauty routine.

Without further ado here’s what I received inside my July Birchbox (Contents may vary. Please see the July spoiler post to see what you may receive).

To kick start the July edition, subscribers can again expect to see two make up items and first up is the Manna Kadar Long Wear Powder which is available in two shades. I received Trifecta and thankfully it’s the shade I was hoping for! This multi-purpose 4-in-1 powder covers bronzer, brows, contour and eyeshadow and is formulated with a custom light texture that glides on smoothly and evenly for the perfect healthy glow. This isn’t something I could get away with using on my brows but it looks rather promising as a blush.

The second makeup addition inside my box is the Eyeko Fat Stick in the shade Satin (Full size RRP £12.00). Now I do like the shade and that it’s in a crayon form which is handy for travelling but I’m a little bored of seeing this brand pop up time and time again. The twist-up pencil is described as a great option to achieve a low maintenance smokey eye or an easy wash of colour and the shimmering shade is perfect for both day and night but it for me it just didn’t deliver on the quality front (to be fair I don’t think the weather does this crayon any favours!).  Also from next month’s sneak peek it appears they’ll be featuring another eye crayon but from another brand!

Moving onto body care we have a microbead-free Shower Scrub (Travel size) from What’s in it for me, a brand I’ve not come across before but I can tell you now it smells so good thanks to the uplifting orange and jasmine flower! It also contains sweet almond oil to nourish and prevent dryness and the fragments of gritty walnut shells scrubs away dull, dead skin cells. I’m really looking forward to trying this and love that it comes in a tube as opposed to a pot.

Up next and sadly a repeat for me is the Balance Me Congested Skin Serum (Sample size), a formula that’s fortified with Spruce Knot and Kanuka Essential Oil that provides anti-microbial properties to diminish blemish-causing bacteria, whilst a calming blend of Roman Chamomile, Lavender and Eucalyptus restore long-lasting comfort. The formula is really light weight and gentle from what I can remember but as for diminishing spots, it’s not the quickest!

Last out of the box and something my eyes will really appreciate is the BeautyPro Eye Therapy Under Eye Mask (x1 pack)! The hydrogel patches are rich in Green Tea Extract, Aloe Vera and Marine-based Collagen, which work in synergy to deliver an array of skincare benefits. The intensive treatment is able to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles, whilst reviving a fatigued and puffy eye contour. The soothing and relaxing treatment hydrates and nourishes skin in just fifteen to twenty minutes, leaving eyes energised and youthful from the first use.

My Verdict

As you’ve probably gathered I was a little underwhelmed with my July contents but thankfully there are few a bits I’ll be able to make use out of! Personally, I don’t think the products are quite as impressive as recent months and whilst I liked the idea behind this month’s edit and the pretty colours used for the box design, the repetition of a certain brand and receiving a product I had gotten in a previous box somewhat let this box down for me. Nonetheless, the selection does cover a good variety and I’m particularly looking forwarding to trying out the body scrub and treating my eyes to the masks! Here’s to hoping the August box makes up for the shortfall!
