The May 2015 You Beauty Discovery Box has landed and this month’s shortlist theme is centered around the stars of the CEW Beauty Awards also known as the beauty Oscars and has all areas covered showcasing both well-known and emerging brands who made it as winners and shortlisted finalists this year. Whilst there were a couple of repeats there was still enough within the shortlist to keep me interested and this month I opted for the Angel Cloth and the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, one of my most recent discoveries and a true favourite. It’s no wonder that the majority of the products are already out of stock, it’s been a very popular shortlist menu!

“You Beauty Discovery” is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 2 selected hair, make-up and beauty products from well-known and new brands and they also include 2-3 bonus samples. Unlike the other subscription boxes you get to choose two products of your choice from a diverse selection menu each month.

My box included 2 products of my choice from the shortlist and two extra bonus treats.

1. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara  – Sample Size 4.8g Worth £11.40

It’s been a while since a mascara has truly wowed me so when I discovered the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara last month I instantly fell in love with the results and it’s no surprise why this made the cut at the CEW Awards, very well-deserved.

Popularly known for it’s bold claims and some pretty impressive reviews, the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara has a unique hourglass-shaped brush that gives great separation and curl whilst coating each lash with ease. It has a few unique selling points including a film-forming polymer to give a smudge-proof all-day wear, Senegal tree extract to nourish lashes and peptides to give a deep black colour payoff.

I love the packaging which is surprisingly quite played down despite the name of the mascara and comes presented in beautiful light pink chrome tube.  The wand itself is a hourglass shape with tightly packed bristles and alongside the formula they do indeed make the perfect partnership.

Without a doubt this makes my lashes look amazing, it gives volume, length and drama which are key things I look for in a mascara. If you love a lot of vavavoom when it comes to lashes then I would definitely recommend this.

2.  The Konjac Sponge Company Angel Face Cloth – Full Size. RRP £11.99

Firstly can we take a moment to admire the cloth itself, it’s been cleverly folded to replicate an angel, how adorable.

The cloth itself is quite rigid but once wet, the angel turns into a soft gentle exfoliating cloth, made from pure vegetable fibre. It can be used with with both hot and cold cleansers, or on its own with no cleanser at all; it even cleanses the delicate eye area. Kinder than a muslin cloth or flannel, the angel cloth will not damage the skin and leaves it feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

It’s taken me a long time to hop on the konjac sponge train, having just used one for the first time a little over 5 weeks ago, but I’m glad I got on board as they really beneficial for the skin and I’m looking forward to putting my muslin cloth to one side to give this one a go.

3. Extra Samples within the box:

This month, You Beauty Discovery included two bonus samples. There’s a sample vial of Jimmy Choo’s Man and a sample sachet of Dr Organic’s Snail Gel. As well as the samples there’s also a Marks and Spencers 20% off voucher that can be redeemed against selected beauty products and fragrances.

My Verdict

This month’s shortlist showcased some great highlights giving subscribers an opportunity to try out some of the stars of the show from the CEW Awards.  Whilst I struggled to shortlist just the two products I’m really chuffed with my picks alongside the the extra samples that were thrown in too. The menu itself had a good balance of beauty showcasing both well-known and emerging brands. I’m extremely happy to have a back up of my favourite mascara and I can’t wait to see how the Angel Cloth measures up against my muslin cloth.

The value of my box is worth £23.39 beating the actual cost of the box and includes one full sized product with the remainder being sample sized. If you want to try a more friendlier approach to beauty, this is a great place to start as the box itself is only £6.95.

The magazine within the box included various discount codes for all of the brands featured this month which is great if you want to purchase further products.

You Beauty Discovery is a firm favourite of mine, it’s budget friendly, gives you full control on what you want inside your box and it’s a great way to discover emerging and well known brands from a good selection of beauty products.  I’ve been really impressed with their shortlist menu’s recently and for only £6.95 every month it’s super affordable and good value for money.
