The July 2015 You Beauty Discovery Box has landed and as always I couldn’t wait to make my picks, although the usual email that we all eagerly wait for went AWOL for the very first time! This month’s shortlist is centered around travel which is so fitting for this time of year so whether your off to sunnier climes or staying at home there really is something for every beauty fan.  With lot’s of new discoveries on board I went for the Vichy duo set and the Hairy Jayne hair perfume and I think it was exceptionally generous of them to also include a good sized sample of the St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion which I’ve been wanting to try after having a few disastrous attempts at self-tanning (my husbands fault!) within the last few weeks. “You Beauty Discovery” is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get choose two products of your choice from both well-known and emerging brands and they also throw in 2-3 bonus samples. Each month you’ll find a shortlist that’s been centered around a theme.

My box included 2 products of my choice from the shortlist and three extra bonus treats.

1. Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 & Idealia Life Serum DuoSample Size 30ml and 3ml. Worth £3.97

I’ve not tried much from French brand Vichy so it was the perfect opportunity to grab this duo from the shortlist which unfortunately is now out of stock.

I think we’re all guilty of not removing our make-up from time to time, I’m particularly lazy after a night out so if there’s a product that will make my skin care regimen simpler and quicker, I’m interested! The Vichy Purete Thermale 3 in 1 is a milky cleanser that scrubs off all dirt, oil and make-up without over drying the skin and I can wash my face in the shower, get ready for work and still not feel the need to rush and worry about applying moisturiser, it’s that good! It’s a great all-rounder that even works to remove stubborn mascara.

The Vichy Idealia Life Serum helps combat behavioural aging and improve skin quality. It claims  to even and illuminate the complexion, refine pores, and rest facial features. It’s safe for sensitive skin, and suitable for all  skin types with a hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and paraben-free formula. I’ve tried this from a previous box and absolutely loved the light formula so happy to have received another.

2. Hairy Jayne Citrus Hair PerfumeFull Size 30ml. Worth £7.20

One of the advantages (there’s not many!) of having such wild and unruly hair it allows me to try all sorts of products so when I saw the Hairy Jayne Hair Perfume it sounded perfect for my hair.

Inspired by traditional hair care remedies used worldwide, the products are made from naturally derived ingredients which are specifically hair friendly. All of the products are free from artificial colours, parabens and sulfates (SLS) and are fragranced with a beautiful blend of essential oils. As well as being as natural as possible, they are carefully handmade in small batches as opposed to be being churned out in a factory.

Having hair extensions I don’t wash my hair often during the week as it weakens the bonds so on the perfume side of things this gives my hair that freshly washed fragrance which is great for in-between washes. I also love that this doesn’t make my hair greasy or weigh it down and the zesty fragrance really awakens my hair with just a single spritz. As well as the gorgeous scent this also helps combat frizz and flyaways and works as a heat protectant too making it an excellent multi-tasking hair product.

 3. Extra Samples within the box:

This month, You Beauty Discovery included a really generous mix of samples but the highlight for me was the St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion (50ml) which I initial assumed was part of the shortlist menu! I’ve had a few weeks of disastrous tanning applications thanks to my husband so was happy to see something that appeared to be a good foolproof alternative. I’ve been using this for two days now and if you’re looking for immediate results this definitely falls outside of that category. The process is slow and even after two days there’s still no noticeable results although I will persevere for another few days before I completely give up. The three minutes leave-on time in the shower feels like forever when you’re just standing there, thankfully it’s not too chilly at the moment!

As well as the generous St Tropez shower lotion you can also expect to see a packet of Nairns Muesli Breaks Oatcakes which is a wholegrain snack to keep you fuller for longer and a sample sachet of the Emma Hardie Protect & Prime SPF30.

My Verdict

I rarely reach for skincare and hair products when it comes to selecting my picks from the shortlist menu, I usually just whizz straight past them but this month I’m so pleased I took the risk, I even passed on the lipstick which is a first for me! I’m delighted with both of my picks this month, the Vichy Duo will certainly comes in useful during the warmer weather and the Hairy Jayne Hair Perfume really injects some loveliness back into my hair with it’s gorgeous uplifting scent. I love the generous beauty and foodie extra’s this month and whilst I had high hopes for the St Tropez I’m hoping that I’ll see noticeable results within the next few days.

The value of my box is worth around £15.00 beating the actual cost of the box and includes very generous sized samples, perfect to judge whether you like them or not.
The magazine within the box also includes various discount codes for all of the brands featured this month which is great if you want to purchase further products.

In terms of value, brands and the products they showcase month on month, this really is an incredible beauty box that allows you to discover and trial seasonal must-haves as well as emerging brands/products that have just made their debut into the beauty industry. It’s a complete bargain at only £6.95 each month making it super affordable and excellent value for money. I really can’t fault this box and one of the aspects I love is that I have full control of what’s inside my box as well as receiving some additional bonus samples too. If you’re new to the beauty box concept then this is definitely one of the best boxes to start off with.
