The season states it’s summer however the weather states otherwise! We’ve definitely not had the best start to the season where has the sunshine gone? For those who aren’t escaping abroad this month to get away from the typical British weather then Birchbox is sending tropical vibes straight to our door with a selection of travel-ready beauty products enclosed within two different box designs that will have you dreaming of paradise! Showcasing well-known and lesser known brands, they’ve covered all areas and for the first time ever the box has transformed into a drawer this month so it’s definitely a keeper. Plus subscribers also had an opportunity to upgrade their box to receive a pair of Quay Australia sunglasses.
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 5 luxe beauty treats from well-known brands and emerging brands and occasionally you may also receive a lifestyle item too. Birchbox is also a full-blown beauty destination where you can purchase all the brands which have been featured in their boxes with an exceptional and very generous reward program.
1. Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigments – Full Size RRP £17.95
First up from the line up there’s a rather fitting addition in the form of this lip and cheek cream from Jelly Pong Pong to add a pretty pop of colour to your make up bag and subscribers will either receive the shade Cake Pop or Fig Jam.
This dual purpose treat is incredibly pigmented, smells delicious, and a little really goes a long way. It is so creamy and the shade Cake Pop is a true summer time coral that really looks flattering on the skin as well as brightening the complexion too.
2. Percy & Reed Reassuringly Firm Session Hold Hairspray – Travel Size 50ml. Full Size RRR £12.00
Percy & Reed are by far one of my favourite haircare brands, not only do they look pretty on the dresser their products work absolute wonders so I really welcome their Firm Session Hold Hairspray to tame my flyaways!
This ultra fine, humidity resistant mist promises to ive your style a satisfyingly strong hold which is completely invisible to the eye, so it looks utterly natural, and is impeccably well-behaved. It’s formulated with hair-compatible ingredients that improve gloss and condition and being in a travel-ready size it’s perfect for when you’re on-the-go for quick touch ups.
3. James Read Overnight Tan Sleep Mask Tan Face – Travel Size 25ml. Full Size RRP £25.00
A product that tans your face while you sleep – genius! When it comes to the latest and greatest in the tanning industry, James Read is always churning out innovative and foolproof tanning solutions and I’ve always been pretty happy with what I’ve tried from his collection.
The James Reed Sleep Mask Tan offers an overnight tanning treatment in the form of a lovely light weight serum that’s infused with skincare essentials such as aloe vera, cucumber, hyaluronic acid and red algae to moisturise the skin overnight. You simply apply before bed, go to sleep and wake up with a beautiful natural colour with no mess or evidence on your pillows or bed sheets due to its colourless formula.
If you’re worried about the formula over accelerating overnight it surprisingly doesn’t and instead gives a nice healthy glow without looking artificial or too tanned. If you’re disastrous at applying fake tan like me, this mask is completely fool-proof and applies with very minimal effort, it simply does all the hard work for you whilst you’re asleep!
4. Laura Mercier Soufflé Body Cream in Ambre Vanille – Sample Size 25g. Full Size RRP £45.00
Suitable for even the most sensitive skin, this 99% natural and 30% organic cleanser cleans, removes makeup, controls and soothes without leaving your skin feeling tight and also works to regulates your skin. I can see my oily skin really loving this so I’m looking forward to giving this a go.
My Verdict
As always, Birchbox gets full marks when it comes to their packaging and presentation, I absolutely adore the tropical designs they’ve showcased this month not forgetting the transformation of the box itself which for the very first time opens up as a drawer. With five products ranging from kind skincare, luxe bodycare, a hair fix and a make up treat they’ve covered all basis and while there was no new brand discoveries for me there’s a few solid beauty staples that I’m happy to add to my collection so whether you’re home or lucky enough to be escaping on holiday I think there’s some great highlights this month. I’m particularly smitten with the Laura Mercier Soufflé Body Cream and ever so grateful to have found this inside my box as I’ve been wanting to try it out for such a long time – I can see the full size making its way to my shopping basket!
If you like trying out products from well-known, loved and emerging brands then Birchbox is definitely great for this. The subscription itself is affordable and the monthly rotation of treats introduces you to brands and products you might not have otherwise found, all of which can be purchased within their online shop. Whilst Birchbox send out smaller samples with 1-2 full sized items, in my opinion they are much more consistent and are more likely to send you something that you feel the need to purchase.
