What’s the best way to combine your love of food and a love of beauty guilt-free? By indulging in this month’s Glossybox of course which promises to be good enough to eat (in theory – please don’t eat any of the products)! When Glossybox unveiled their collaboration with Deliciously Stella and the inspiration behind their January edition I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Line up wise they’ve cleverly come up with an edit brimming with five super food infused/inspired beauty finds to incorporate into our daily beauty routines but for me personally I was disappointed to see that it was dominated by skin care however on the plus side there are a few highlights and a host of new finds along with some full-sized products too so if you’re a skin care junkie then this edit definitely has your name on it!
Glossybox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 4-5 selected hair, make-up , body and nail products from well-known brands and new brands and includes a mixture of full-sized and sample products.
1. Nip & Fab Kale Fix Moisturiser – Travel Size 30ml
It appears that the same ingredients that we’re putting in our salads are now creeping into our beauty products too…cue the Nip & Fab Kale Fix Moisturiser which contains kale, watercress and almond oil to help enrich the skin with vitamins and protect against external factors that dries the skin. This also contains aloe vera and shea butter to improve the texture of your skin and keep it hydrated. I love the refreshing cucumber scent but I found the thick formula to be way too rich for my oily skin.
2. TheBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony Single Eyeshadow – Sample Size
I’ve always loved theBalm and their cheeky packaging but their samples are a little hard to work with but ever so cute! This single eyeshadow in the shade Matt Moskowitz is a matte aubergine hue and is just one of the nine shades inside the Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette. It’s described as a velvety smooth texture, triple-milled formula and true-to-pan payoff.
I love products by the Balm but the shade chosen for this month’s edit was so outside of my comfort zone (sad face)!
3. Unani Milk Cleanser – Full size 200ml RRP £14.00
This is a very generous full size gentle cleansing milk from Unani that hails all the way from Spain and uses natural oils to help purify and protect the skin – it smells absolutely amazing! With a milk-like texture that’s not too thick or too runny, it feels super gentle and soothing when applied and the oils certainly help to hydrate the skin as it cleanses and doesn’t leave an oily layer on the skin which is promising. On the downside it isn’t so great at removing eye make up but all in all I think this a good choice for minimal make up days!
4. Vitamasques Manuka Honey Face Mask – Full Size RRP £3.99
For that all important pampering time, Glossybox have also included a Manuka Honey Face Mask by Vitamasques to help nourish and condition the skin. Developed with triple layer sheet technology for maximum effect and absorption, the face mask utilises extracts of Manuka Honey to moisturise and soften skin, leaving it smooth, rejuvenated and restored with enhanced radiance.
5. True Organic of Sweden All you need is me – Full size 50ml RRP £19.99
Lastly we have a multitasking wonder balm from True Organics, a brand that’s completely new on my radar but their mission is to create top quality skin care products with the highest levels of organic ingredients – even the tube is made out of sugar cane!
This ultra rich and nourishing balm uses concentrated natural organic ingredients and promises to be super effective and fast acting with an impressive list of uses such as reviving cracked and dry cuticles, heels, elbows and lips, a nourishing scalp and hair mask in addition to treating mosquito and insect bites, poison ivy, eczema, mild sunburn, red baby bottoms and rough dry gardening hands – impressive right?
Whether you’ve got a chapped post-flu nose, burned yourself on your straightening irons, or managed to get bitten by the only insect that managed to live through the winter, this balm is definitely a staple for the medicine cabinet and when travelling.
My Verdict
While I loved the collaboration and the theme for January, unfortunately I just wasn’t so in love with the skin care heavy line up this month and think this edit definitely had the potential to be great and more exciting if they featured more of a balanced beauty menu. Geared towards helping you detox your skin care for the new year, it does feature a good selection of hydrating skin care which are perfect for the cold weather spell we’re having but in comparison to previous editions this month just didn’t rank high for me. On the plus side there’s quite a few new discoveries and products I’ve not tried before and I’m particularly looking forward to trying out the sheet mask and the multi-purpose balm! The standout so far is definitely the milk cleanser, it’s a good choice for every day and smells like spring bottled up! If you do favour skin care over hair and make up products then you’ll definitely appreciate this month’s edition.
