I think the warmer months are definitely my favourite time of year for beauty subscription boxes as not only do they equip us with beneficial products to enhance our natural glow but they also include some seasonal must-haves! Sadly, while the weather isn’t on point, the second in the series of summer boxes from Glossybox certainly is and inside you can expect to see six products covering mainly hair care and make-up from both well-known and under the radar brands. Once again everything gels together well to fit in with the theme however I’m not sure why we have so many hair products this month!
If you’re new to Glossybox, it’s a monthly subscription box that comes packed with both deluxe-sized and full-size products and covers all areas of beauty from skin care, hair, nails, make-up and everything else in between from brands we all love and know as well as those hidden gems too! The box costs £13.25 per month and contains contents which always exceed the overall subscription price.
Without further ado here’s what I received inside my August Glossybox:
Up first and to cheat that summer glow is the MODELLAUNCHER Safari Sun Bronzer (Full size RRP £16.50), a soft, mineral-enriched bronzer that offers complimentary shades to highlight all skin tones and provides a natural healthy glow. It conditions and protects the skin thanks to the inclusion of Vitamins A, C and E and is hypoallergenic, mineral oil-free, talc-free, dye-free and paraben-free. I’ve been on the hunt for a new bronzer and wanted to try out something a little different than the one I usually stick with but this does look a little too shimmery.
Another product out of the box that grabbed my attention is the VÁLQUER Ice Hair Mask (Travel Size 100ml), an innovative, cool macadamia oil mask that fixes and improves the quality of worn and bare hair. I’ve got to admit I don’t usually get excited by hair products but I’m liking the sound of this and it seems like the perfect antidote for treating parched hair especially if it’s been exposed after a spot of sunbathing!
Sticking to hair care we have a sample of the Batiste 2in1 Dry Shampoo & Conditioner (Travel size 50ml) and although we only recently received a Batiste product in June, dry shampoo is definitely a necessity for me so I’m pretty pleased this ended up inside my box! Batiste is a true classic and a favourite amongst many however this version also conditions your hair without leaving it greasy and comes in a handy size to slip into the handbag or hand luggage for a quick refresh when you’re on the go.
On the make-up front is the very playful essence live.laugh.celebrate! palette (Full size £1.50) which is a limited edition collection in honour of turning 15 years old – I didn’t even know that they’ve been around for that long! As expected, I immediately fell in love with the design and couldn’t help but wave the palette around to get those colourful little beads running from one side to another – it was highly satisfying! Another aspect I love is that this palette is a build your own one with four empty slots and essence do have quite a fair bit of add-ons which you can purchase separately (£1.50 each) but luckily Glossybox took care of that and included two eyeshadow shades, a blush and a highligter.
Up next we have the Rodial Suede Lips (Full size £22.00) in the shade Big Apple, it’s not particularly summery but it’s perfect for every day wear. Suede Lips is described as an intense matte lip colour that’s enriched with vitamin E and set in a convenient jumbo crayon for easy application and also promises a long-lastin and non-drying formula to keep your lips smooth for hours.
Lastly and a bonus item inside this month’s box is a Purelei Aloha Bracelet which also doubles up as a hair tie!
My Verdict
The second series from Glossybox’s summer collection featured another summery themed box making such a nice change from the usual pink signature box we’re all use to, the only problem is I just can’t bring myself to throw them! Line-up wise, it was a little disappointing to see three hair products but having said that they all appear to be useable and the Ice Mask seems like a beneficial addition for the summer months especially if you’re jetting off to somewhere that’s much more sunnier than the UK! There’s a few make-up treats inside this month’s edit which definitely redeemed the shortfall for me and I think you’ll agree it’s a tricky one to get right as we all have different preferences but with mindful precision I think Glossybox did a good job to include a bunch of universal shades. Overall, this was another good value box from Glossybox and included many new discoveries, all of which are very generous in size so you’ll definitely be able to give them a good trial run!
