If anyone knows a thing or two about beauty it’s the Vogue Beauty Editors of both past and present so I was really looking forward to seeing what products from their 100 Beauty Hall of Theme made the cut inside my November Birchbox as I had already decided in my head what I wanted when I saw the spoiler post! Typically, I of course didn’t end up with any of the products I was hoping for but nonetheless I do love the collaboration and line-up wise there’s a few products which I’m excited to try out plus I absolutely adore miniature beauty products so the Benefit Hoola sample was a huge hit with me!
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of 5 luxe beauty treats from well-known brands and emerging brands and occasionally you may also receive a lifestyle item too. Birchbox is also a full-blown beauty destination where you can purchase all the brands which have been featured in their boxes.
Here’s what I received inside my *November box (Contents may vary. Please see the November spoiler post to see what you may receive)
Up first and something that all subscribers will receive inside this month’s box is the most cutest sample ever from Benefit in the form of the ever so popular Hoola Bronzer. I think my first-ever high end bronzer was the Benefit Hoola Bronzer (sample size) and it’s beautifully pigmented, blendable, has a versatile matte finish and is perfect for contouring. I’ve not used this for a couple of years but this little compact is much more friendlier than the full size version – I remember a couple of disasters when the lid came away inside my make-up bag!
Did Birchbox know I was looking a little on the pale side, it seems that way! So alongside the bronzer above I also received the James Read Gradual Tan Sleep Mask (Sample size 25ml) which offers an overnight tanning treatment in the form of a lovely light weight serum that’s infused with skincare essentials such as aloe vera, cucumber, hyaluronic acid and red algae to moisturise the skin overnight. You simply apply before bed, go to sleep and wake up with a beautiful natural colour with no mess or evidence on your pillows or bed sheets due to its colourless formula. When it comes to the latest and greatest in the tanning industry, James Read is always churning out innovative and foolproof tanning solutions and I’ve always been pretty happy with what I’ve tried from his collection however I received this very same product inside a Birchbox last year!
Moving onto hair care we have the Percy & Reed Smooth Sealed & Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil (Travel Size 30ml) and it’s a brand that really agrees with my hair so although I already own and use their Wonder Oil I’m looking forward to trying this out mainly for it’s volumising and frizz fighting claims. This multi-tasker promises to nourish and repair the hair, giving smooth, sleek, silky locks whilst also adding volume and boasts an ultralight, water-based formula. The formula instantly conditions and rehydrates, improving hair condition and creating mirror-like shine, while volumising ingredients work to build body and provide hold, boosting hair’s resistance to frizz and humidity.
Lazy girl beauty hacks are just the best and this little tool by Birchbox will certainly save you time and eliminate those wrinkly fingers when it comes to cleaning those make-up brushes, it’s such a chore and a boring one at that! The Birchbox Brush Cleaner (RRP £5.00) removes every trace of product from your tools thanks to the specially-designed grooves so there’s no excuses now!
Lastly out of the box is the L’Occitane en Provence Shea Butter Hand Cream (Sample size 10ml), a formula that’s enriched with 20% Shea Butter, as well as a blend of almond, honey, and coconut oil for added nourishment. Jasmine and ylang-ylang means fans smell like heaven after. The cream itself is absorbed rapidly, leaving them feeling soft and cloud-smooth with no oily traces and is just one of the brand’s best sellers!
My Verdict
Okay so this month’s box didn’t arrive with the products I was hoping for (I really wanted to try the Klorane Dry Shampoo or the Bumble & Bumble product) but nonetheless I guess I was okay with that as everything is pretty usable however I did end up with two bronzing products which probably isn’t a bad thing considering how pale I look at the moment! Line-up wise, this month’s selection included some decent sized samples and featured a little bit of everything ranging from skin care, hair, make-up and even a beauty tool and although my box isn’t the most exciting curation there are some great ones floating around Instagram that include a full size Seche Vite Top Coat! I’ve also noticed the same brands popping up recently so I’d love to see some newbies on board for their future curations as it’s becoming quite samey especially if you’ve been a loyal subscriber. Did I mention there’s also a complimentary voucher to redeem 6 issues of Vogue when you subscribe to a one or two year period.
If you like trying out products from well-known, loved and emerging brands then Birchbox is definitely great for this. The subscription itself is affordable and the monthly rotation of treats introduces you to brands and products you might not have otherwise found, all of which can be purchased within their online shop.
