Dollar Shave Club Review – June 2018

Maintaining super smooth, fuzz-free legs in the summer can be absolutely tedious, skip one day and you can easily find yourself with prickly legs again! I’ve been there too many times and the worst thing to happen in this situation is that dreaded moment when your razor is absolutely blunt and as naughty as it is and out of desperation I still use it and suffer the consequences straight after! Needless to say, hair removal is a pain for most women and men, it’s something we struggle with daily so when the Dollar Shave Club subscription popped up on my Facebook feed I decided to give it a go as their starter kit is just £5.00 which then increases to £8.00 the month after if you want to top up on your blades.

If you’re new to the Dollar Shave Club, it’s a monthly subscription that sends you everything you need for a fuss-free shave. Your first box named the Executive Box will contain the 6-blade Executive razor, 4 spare blades and Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter (Travel size 86g). Thereafter, you will receive replacement cartridges for £8.00 a month and there are options to add additional shaving products from their shop. You can pause or cancel your subscription at any time by logging into your account. Delivery can take between 3 to 5 working days.

As promised my box did arrive within the 5 working days window and inside there was a complete kit, something I was worried about as I was unsure if they would include any spare blades. On first impressions, the look and feel of the razor is very manly and very similar to what my myself and my husband use – anyone else find men’s shaving products work so much better and always provide cleaner results? Anyway it’s no secret I love my trusty Gillette Mach 3 razor and the executive razor looked rather promising with its 6 blade technology! Of course looks can be deceiving and from previous experiences no razor has even come close to my ultimate favourite, well that was until I tried the executive razor from Dollar Shave Club!

After putting this to the test and hoping that that my shower wasn’t going to end up looking like a scene out of Psycho, I have to say, this razor was completely safe and is the closest comparison I can make to the men’s Gillette Mach 3 and works harmoniously well with the shaving butter for a smooth and close shave. The Dr Craver’s Shaving Butter doesn’t foam up but in comparison to other shaving butters I’ve tried this one doesn’t clog up the razor and provides a nice glide while slightly lifting the hairs up at the same time. It also felt very moisturising without leaving any residue on my skin. I think the only aspect I didn’t like is the fact that the razor is a little on the weighty side but I guess that’s something I’ll get use to the more I use it plus the grip isn’t the greatest either when you’ve got shaving butter all over your hands!

Judging by the look and feel of my legs, this duo performed just as well as my usual in-shower shave routine if not better and thanks to the 6 blade technology it also did the job a hell of a lot quicker. I was able to get a super close yet nick-free shave effortlessly and most importantly I know I’m pretty much equipped on the shaving front for at least a month. For me personally I think receiving this subscription on a monthly basis is somewhat excessive and isn’t something I would personally benefit from so I’ve decided to switch to their two month plan and see how I get on. I didn’t really know what to expect from The Dollar Shave Club and although I’ve seen some negative comments on their Facebook page, their products definitely exceeded my expectations and for only £5.00, I highly recommend grabbing this little set.
