First things first…A huge Happy Birthday to Birchbox! It’s their 5th Birthday this month and to celebrate they’ve treated their subscribers to a cute keepsake tin to accompany their tea party theme, not 5 but 6 treats and a 20% off discount code for all subscribers to use in the shop and as much as the samples I get each month are great on their own, these extra little touches really do go a long way with me. Speaking of samples, I’m really liking what I received this month, both inside and out and judging by feedback on social media it appears I’m not the only one! Continuing with the celebrations, I’m feeling rather spoilt considering it’s their birthday and not mine so thank you so much Birchbox for the personalised goodies – my other half has already claimed the biscuit so the napkins will definitely come in useful to clean up the evidence – “what biscuit”?
If you’re new to Birchbox they are one of the main leaders in the beauty box subscription market. Each month they’ll send you 5 deluxe sample and travel size beauty products (including the occasional full-size!) You can expect a mix of make-up, skincare, body, and haircare to upgrade your beauty routine.
Without further ado here’s what I received inside my June Birchbox (Contents may vary. Please see the June spoiler post to see what you may receive).
This month you can expect to see two makeup treats amongst the line up and up first and something all subscribers will receive is the Ella Eden Compact Eyeshadow (RRP £12.99). From the two shade variations (you can pick which shade you want) I received Julia, a beautiful peachy hue which is what I would have picked out myself. Cruelty-free and formulated with the highest standard of natural ingredients, this pressed eyeshadow combines intense colour pay-off with long-lasting wear for the ultimate everyday wear or apply with a wet brush to make a bolder statement.
The second makeup addition inside my tin (so weird saying tin instead of box!) is the Benefit POREfessional Pearl Primer (sample size 3ml) and unfortunately this is a repeat for me as I received this same sample inside my October Birchbox! Unlike the original POREfessional, this version has an added dose of soft pearly pink pigment to impart a brighter, smoother, more awake complexion.
Anything that promises to tame my unruly hair is always a welcome sight and the Number 4 Jour d’automme Smoothing Balm is something my hair will certainly benefit from judging by the description! The balm helps to transform frizzy, curly, unruly hair with humidity resistance, heat protection and hold and control. The Liquid Complex Culture defines all N4 products and ensures nothing less than a hair miracle. I haven’t had a chance to experiment with this yet but I’m hoping it’s as good as it sounds!
Up next we have an apt summer staple in the form of the Polaar Velvety Face and Body Sun Fluid (sample size), a multitasking velvety formula thar offers high UVA and UVB protection which fights sunburn and premature ageing. Plus, it also contains a blend of soybean and sunflower oils leaves skin feeling silky smooth.
It’s not often I get excited about skin care but I’m delighted the Glamglow Cleanser (sample size) made its way to me as I’ve been a little reluctant to splurge on the full size in case I didn’t like it! Described as a pore-refining triple-charcoal boost, this is their most advanced clearing cream-to-foam cleanser with a powerful blend of three charcoals to detoxify and absorb a range of impurities from the skin. Infused with TEAOXI® Eucalyptus Leaf, Mediterranean clay, and a special blend of bamboo, ubame wood, and coconut charcoals, this formula clarifies and helps remove pore-clogging debris, excess oil, and face makeup, while leaving skin feeling soothed, soft, and sexy.
Last out of the box and an extra little treat for all subscribers is a cute little box filled with three different Twinning tea bags(x3). The selection contains Lemon & Ginger, Earl Grey and a Mango and Bergamot tea bag.
My Verdict
I was really impressed with the June Bircbox, it’s probably been one of the best I’ve gotten in quite a while and is a good example of when beauty boxes get it so right. From the tea party theme right through to the contents not forgetting the cute tin that accompanies it, this month’s box really had it all and mainly consisted of things I hadn’t tried before. The line-up covered a good variety and even though I’m more of a makeup lover rather than lotions and potions, I appreciate that Birchbox introduced me to some new and beneficial skin and hair care products that I’ll most certainly be able to put to good use plus it’s always exciting to see a sample of something you’ve been wanting to try! My only gripe is the repeat Benefit product but other than that job well done Birchbox, I really enjoyed this month’s theme and all the beneficial goodies. Now to decide what to spend my discount code on!
