January is quite possibly the most dullest and longest month of the year but I absolutely love that Birchbox opted for such a bright and cheery box design this month and the cheer doesn’t stop there as the contents I received were pretty awesome too – they did good all-round this month on all fronts! Their ‘Shake your Pom Poms’ edition offers great variety and touches on skin and body, hair and make-up in the form of three full sizes and good sized samples in addition to lots of new discoveries for me!

If you’re new to Birchbox they are one of the main leaders in the beauty box subscription market. Each month they’ll send you 5 deluxe sample and travel size beauty products (including the occasional full-size!) You can expect a mix of make-up, skincare, body, and haircare to upgrade your beauty routine.

Without further ado here’s what I received inside my January Birchbox (Contents may vary. Please see the January spoiler post to see what you may receive).

First out of the box and an item that subscribers got to pick is the CLĒ Cosmetics Essence Moonlighter Cushion (Full size RRP £22.00 ) which is available in two shadesI received Copper Rose which is described as a burnished petal hue and is the shade I was secretly hoping to receive! Formulated with soothing and nourishing ingredients, the Moonlighter Cushion highlights desired areas with a smooth, illuminating finish with a calming cooling sensation! I’ve not tried a cushion highlighter before so I’m excited to see how this compares with cream highlighters!

Thanks to beauty subscription boxes, I’ve received and tried a hell of a lot of the Philip Kingsley collection but thankfully their Flaky/Itchy Scalp Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (sample size) is completely new for me so that’s a relief! This multi-award-winning shampoo not only eliminates dandruff, but it also soothes the scalp and prevents a new formation of excessive dandruff and claims to work immediately, gently and effectively. This shampoo is one of the best sellers in the Philip Kingsley range and was developed by Philip personally for Sir Lawrence Olivier.

Up next we have the Dr.Botanicals Cleansing Bar (Full size 100g RRP £5.90) and subscribers may receive different variations in terms of the scent. Described as being gentle for both the face and body, it’s formulated with 98% natural ingredients, and helps to cleanse, exfoliate and restore your natural glow. I received the lemon version and the refreshing scent is perfect for that pick me up in the mornings!

Removing make-up is such a chore however the AfterSpa Facial Scrubber (RRP £6.00) claims to be your cleanser’s new best friend when it comes to washing your face! This dual-texture facial tool helps to remove the dirt, oil, and impurities in your skin – that your hands can’t! I think it would also be a great travel buddy too!

I’ve been wanting to try something from Becca for such a long time so I couldn’t be happier  to start with their First Light Priming Filter (Travel Size 100ml). The primer claims to instantly brighten and refresh a tired dull complexion and awakens the skin to give a healthy looking glow thank to it’s innovative formula. It’s formulated using mineral water and combines the traditional botanics with the latest skin science to awaken and energise inside and out. Feel the zing of ginger, and the hydrating power of the prickly pear flow, as the gentle citrus scent helps to enliven body and mind. It also contains a combination of colour correcting hues to even skin tone and blur imperfections to create a flawless start for any face.

Last but not least and sticking to the theme, we have two hair bobbles. I don’t go for these types of bobbles but they add such a fun touch!

My Verdict

What a fantastic start to the year for Birchbox! I’m really chuffed with my contents and particularly love the variety and the fact that they threw in quite a few full sizes which doesn’t happen often so I hope this is something we can expect to see more of in 2019! Their January edition also features all new discoveries for me which is always a bonus as it’s hard to avoid repeat products when you receive a large volume of boxes. Although every single item will get used, I think I’m most excited to try out the Becca First Light Priming Filter – always exciting when a product pops up from a brand you’ve been wanting to try out!
