The long awaited March BirchBox has finally arrived. BirchBox this month collaborated with the iconic British brand Lulu Guinness.

Was you all excited to receive this box like me?  Unfortunately this month’s box despite all the hype and PR really was a big disappointment and let down.  I really expected a lot more from BirchBox.

“BirchBox” is a  monthly beauty subscription service. The box consists of  4-5 selected hair, make-up and beauty products from well-known brands and new brands.

This month’s box included 1 full sized product,  4 sample  sized products and a stick of rock to go with the Lulu Guinness theme. The box mainly consisted of  Beauty Products this month. No hair products!

1.     Korres Citrus Little Body Milk – Full Size 50ml RRP £2.50

I have never heard of this brand however this product is a hydrating body lotion and contains ingredients such as almond oil and shea butter. The smell is lovely in the bottle however when this is applied its not so great and you can hardly smell the citrus. Due to the way this pours out you have to be so careful as I ended up with so much product on my hand!

Upon application this applied well and wasn’t greasy however it didn’t feel very hydrating on my body. Just another average cream which I probably won’t use again!

2.     Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose Hand Cream – Sample Size 7ml  Full Size  RRP £10.00

I adore Molton Brown so was pleased to see this in my BirchBox. Molton Brown has only recently released this range in time for Mothers Day. Molton Brown’s website states  “A luxury hand cream with white truffle extract for exquisitely soft hands, rhubarb extract and moisturising rose extract”.

This smells like Rhubarb and Custard sweets and is quite a pleasant smell which did last on my hands. This wasn’t greasy when applied and absorbed very well adding softness to my hands.

3.     “English Laundry No 7” by Christopher Wicks Perfume – Sample Size 2ml. Full Size RRP £47.00

I haven’t heard of this brand and this is the first perfume sample I have received this year! This scent consists of pear, jasmine blend with gardinia, vanilla and sandalwood.  What a great combination hence the lovely aroma!

This smelt absolutely amazing. A very sweet smell which I am a fan of. The scent lasted a while also.  I will definitely be adding this perfume onto my wish list once it is released!

4.     Dr Brandt Pores No More – Sample Size 7.5ml. For Full Size 30ml RRP £39.00

I was so pleased to see this product having read about it previously. This product claims to “instantly mattify shine and absorb excess oil with Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner. Helping to smooth and even the skin’s texture, it provides a matte finish with or without make-up”

“Formulated with tea tree oil, an essential antibacterial; flaxseed extract, a powder extracted from the flaxseed plant that absorbs oil, reduces shine and regulates oil production; and microspheres, white fine mineral powder that immediately minimises the appearance of large pores by diffusing light, Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner effectively smoothes and evens the skin’s appearance”

Whilst this is a great product it does mattify the skin and my smaller pores did appear less visible however I don’t think this would completely cover bigger pores. This product glides on your face and feels so silky. I put this over my moisturiser before I applied my make up. My make up looked so much better over this product. Overall a great product which I have finally tried.

5.  Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – Sample Size 2.5ml. Full Size RRP £20.50

I am a big fan of Benefit however this miniscule sample certainly did not excite me. This is a primer which works around the eyes to make concealers and eyeshadows stay where you apply it. I don’t use eyeshadows and hardly use concealers unless I’m having a really bad day! My theory is if you use a good concealer you wouldn’t need to apply this product in the first place! Rant over! Unfortunately I haven’t tried this yet and I probably won’t anytime soon!

My Verdict

Unfortunately this month’s box despite all the hype and PR really was a big disappointment and let down.  I really expected a lot more from BirchBox.

This month’s box mostly contained tiny samples apart from 1 product which was 50ml and contained products from known brands . The products included a range of  make-up and body products.  No hair products this month but I can live with that! What disappoints me is that most of these samples can be obtained from a beauty counter at any store for free so why would I want to pay for these as part of my subscription cost is beyond me.

I loved the packaging and the “Life Lessons as told by Lulu Guinness” little book,  however I would of liked to have seen a Lulu Guinness keepsake box as their design of their box instead of their normal brown box.

I feel that BirchBox did not deliver and definitely did not serve any justice to the Lulu Guinness theme.

The contents within this month’s box in my opinion is worth less than the box itself.

This is the first time I have been unhappy with their box since subscribing. I hope that BirchBox do take on board the comments from their customers as I am aware that many people were not happy.  Lets hope next month’s box is a better one!

What did you think of your March “BirchBox”? Did it live up to your expectations? Let us know!
