It’s that time of the month again and the April 2015 Period Box arrives reliably on time as promised to get me through the next few days in the nicest possible way. It’s a great distraction from that unwanted monthly guest and as always you can expect to receive a variety of chic and premium treats, your monthly essentials and lots of love from the founders themselves who curate their boxes with so much care and attention. This box impresses me month on month and makes that time of the month an escape from reality to something much more pleasant and luxurious. It also takes the chore out of buying your monthly pads or tampons, and if you’re anything like me it usually tends to get forgotten about until last minute but this is where the Period Box comes to the rescue and delivers everything you could possibly need for a much happier and hassle-free period.
Period Box is a premium UK monthly subscription service that bundles your choice of tampons and pads with hand-picked goodies and exquisite treats to cheer you up when you most need it. With every box you will receive a selection of premium teas, chocolates from artisan manufacturers, high-end beauty samples and an unique design gift or a beautiful art print by their featured artist of the month. Period Box literally takes care of everything and will ship your package five days before your period is due and no matter what your preferences are your box is completely bespoke to meet your needs both day and night.
As always the box was brimmed to the top and I love how the treats were beautifully wrapped as opposed to just being thrown in, It really gives the feel of opening presents. As well as the monthly essentials the box also included five additional items to enjoy and indulge in making that time of the month much more bearable.
1. Period Essentials (2-3 days cycle)
I opted for the short flow customised package which is for a 2-3 days cycle. I chose a mixture of pads suitable for both day and night. Inside the box was 10 pads (mixture of day and night pads) with four liners too. Period Box caters for all types of flows and your preferences can be chosen when you curate your box.
For me personally the box always includes the perfect amount of pads and liners from Always, a brand that I trust and turn to and find them super comfortable, reliable and discreet.
2. REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask – Sample Size 25ml
I’ve been really loving what I’ve tried so far from REN so welcomed a sample of their Invisible Pores Detox Mask.
This clay based mask is aimed at congested oily skin to give it a really good deep clean and detox by using French Clay to draw out impurities from deep within the pores and remove any excess sebum that cause blackheads and spots. It doesn’t just stop there though, this mask also contains proteins from Spirulina (a fancy tropical seaweed) that ‘encourages cell renewal while reducing pore size, leaving your skin smooth, toned and decongested’.
Even on normal days I really struggle with spots and just when I think I’ve eliminated them all they always seem to make a comeback with the unwanted monthly visitor! I’m always on the look out for products to make my skin look and feel more happy and this mask sounds ideal.
3. Organic Surge Citrus Mint Shower Gel – Full Size 250ml RRP £4.75
Shower gel itself is probably the one item which lacks within beauty boxes and being more of shower girl I welcome this huge 250ml tube from Organic Surge, a brand who have a wide collection of natural and organic products that are very reasonably priced too.
The Citrus Mint Shower Gel contains a blend of purifying and stimulating organic essential oils with natural moisturisers to refresh and invigorate, alongside a natural skin healer aloe vera that works to soothe any skin irritation or blemishes.
The gel itself lathers up really well and the pleasant minty scent delivers a refreshing and uplifting burst of freshness and could easily pass as a unisex product although I won’t let my husband know that! If you love to coordinate your shower gel with the mood you’re in like me, this is the perfect scent to energise your morning or to wind down after a long day and the best part is it’s gentle, kind to the skin and contains no nasties.
4. Happy Tea – 4 Tea Bag sachets
The Happy Tea is specifically designed to assist with increasing the mood, calming digestion, alleviating stress, easing anxiety and also has the added benefit of being gluten-free. It contains a wonderful infusion of Chrysanthemum, Barbary Wolfberry fruit, Hawthorn fruit, Lemon, Rose flower and Chinese Red tea
I’ve not tried any mood enhancing tea’s so I’m looking forward to trying out this herbal infusion which boasts so many benefits.
5. Coco Chocolatier Hazelnut & Sea Salt Dark Organic Chocolate – Full Size 100g RRP £2.00
Period Box really know how to spoil a girl and all subscribers can expect to see a full sized bar of chocolate inside their box each month! That’s right, there isn’t a sample in sight giving you a real chocolate fix as when you need it the most.
This month showcases Coco, an Artisan Chocolatier based in Edinburgh who specialise in making ethically traded, organic and most importantly delicious chocolate. This month features one of my favourite combinations chocolate and hazelnut and the addition of the sea salt really brings out the flavours of the cocoa.
Since receiving the Period Box I’ve become quite a fan of dark chocolate and surprisingly just a couple of chucks really fulfills my chocolate craving guilt-free!
6. Wild Flower Seeds Sachets from Seed Pantry – RRP £5.00
Every month you can expect to see a unique gift from an art print, a design stationery to a hand crafted jewelery item.
This month I received something quite unexpected but I really love the idea behind these wild flower seeds. With the bee population decreasing I’m always happy to do my little bit for the environment and it’s a great excuse to get outdoors. Within the pack is three sachets that contain field poppy seeds and I will be at the ready with my garden tools over the weekend to make sure these are all planted.
My Verdict
I always dread the arrival of my monthly visitor but this box is a great distraction and always manages to put a smile on my face as well as preparing me for the next few days in the nicest possible way. The April edition sees another fantastic line up with a great balance of both beauty and lifestyle products which I adore, everything is just so spot on. I loved the addition of the wild flower seeds which encourages us to help our local bee population and with the lovely weather recently it’s the perfect excuse to get outdoors. Period Box are really flourishing as a company and it’s great to see them partnering with both well-known and emerging brands to bring subscribers a unique and chic line up of treats to make that dreaded time of the month a much happier one. We all look for comforts and indulgence in the form of food and pampering treats to get us through the cycle and this box really has all areas covered without compromising on any of the quality. It’s a great little survival kit which has something for the first day to even the last day of your period whilst accommodating for all of the uncanny stuff that happens in between!
The main aspect which is certainly apparent is that the founders are very passionate about the subject and impressively nothing has been overlooked when putting this box together and I wouldn’t expect any less from Period Box who curate their boxes with so much love and care.
It really is a little box of loveliness which makes the monthly visit much more pleasant and something to actually look forward.
