The May Birchbox definitely deserves a round of applause there’s so much to love this month from the inside and out. Firstly the box is their first ever customisable edition and just oozes appeal and literally shouts “colour me in”! This colouring craze has become the de riguer recently with more and more people using the concept as a therapeutic aid to de-stress and relax whilst letting your creativity run wild!  As well as the child’s play, the “Free your Mind” edition is all about stepping out of our comfort zone and whist we’re all about brand loyalty, this month’s jam-packed line up is about trying something new to breathe new life into our same old routines. May also see’s the return choose your own sample and there’s some fab choices from WAH London from stick on nails to nail art pens. I think you’ll agree it’s a pretty solid line up and for me it’s definitely a showstopper that incorporates so many aspects, all of which fit aptly with the theme.

This month’s box has all areas covered and features a jam packed selection of treats including skincare, hair products, your chosen WAH London treat, make up alongside some colouring pencils.

1.  RMK Point Make-Up Remover – Sample Size 50ml. Full Size RRP £20.00

Whilst I don’t usually opt for oil based makeup removers, they appear to be much more effective when removing all traces of eye make-up especially if you’re like me who wears eyeliner and layers and layers of mascara so I very much welcome this.

The RMK Point Make-Up Remover is a quick-dissolving point cleanser for instant makeup removal of waterproof mascaras and eye makeup, leaving the skin feeling smooth and grease free. It’s formulated with highly moisturising Squalane and treatment ingredients to moisturise and protect the delicate eye zone and lashes.

This dual action makeup remover consists of an oil layer and a liquid layer that needs to be shaken together before use. The formula isn’t too oily at all, in fact it strikes the perfect balance between the two phases once shaken together and doesn’t leave any residue or greasy feeling behind. After a long day there’s nothing more frustrating than having to spend ten minutes scrubbing your eyes in an attempt to get rid of all your makeup and this powerful, yet super gentle remover does the trick minus the pain. It’s a generous sized sample too which is ideal for traveling or weekends away.

2.  Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Tinted Moisturiser Sample Size 15ml. Full Size £27.00

I received the Caudaline Vinoperfect Moisturiser a few month’s ago and absolutely loved the formula so was happy to see the tinted version inside my box.

Ideal for a bit of colour and a glow to your skin, this oil-free, hydrating SPF20 moisturiser diminishes skin concerns, tightens the pores, reduces excess sebum, decreases imperfections, corrects spots, and leaves the complexion even and radiant. I received the shade light and whilst it looked it a little dark it did eventually settle to give an almost perfect near match. It gives a lovely veil of coverage but I’m still in two minds about the shade, think it’s a little light for my skin.

3.  Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge – Sample Size 1.7g. Full Size RRP £21.00

This adorable Mattfinity Lip Rouge sample comes from Mirenesse, an Australian cosmetic brand. I received the shade Paris and whilst I’ve never been one to like bright pink lip colours this is a beautiful pink shade that looks stunning once set.

I  liked the formula, it’s long lasting and felt super- comfy on my lips. Unlike other matte lipsticks I’ve tried I didn’t feel the need to apply a lip balm over it so that’s impressive. I’m definitely interested in trying some of their other shades, the red shade in particular is calling me!

4.  WAH London Press On Nails –  RRP £9.00

I was delighted to see WAH London featured in choose your sample this month, the brand is raved about amongst nail bloggers and this month you can choose a nail art pen to stick on nails. Unfortunately the nail varnishes are no longer available.

I received Going up Going Down, it’s not what I would of picked myself when out shopping but the eye catching design will certainly not fail to get you noticed on a night out.  Inside the pack contains some glue tabs along with a file too, all housed neatly inside.

Thankfully, my nails grow pretty well (there’s the mockers) however occasionally they break usually when I’m due to go out so I really welcome these as a back up for those emergency situations.

5.  Parlor By Jeff Chastain Moisturising Sea Salt Spray – Sample Size 30ml. Full Size RRP £17.00

Part beach wave spray, part leave-in conditioner, this formula gives hair that covetable surfer-girl texture without the drying effects of salt water and you don’t have to visit a beach either as this brings the sea straight to you in a bottle!

The combination of wind, sea and salt does not end well when it comes to my hair! When I go to the beach, instead of looking like a surf goddess my hair gets tangled and giant-sized, the joys of having unruly frizzy hair! This does however contain a blend of nourishing ingredients so hopefully I might be able to achieve a texturised and tousled look just like a mermaid (sorry mermaids win over surfers!)

6. Number 4 Reconstructing Masque – Sample Sachet 7.5ml

This restorative treatment is a bonus sample and promises to infuse the hair with moisture and protein with it’s rich blend of soy proteins, Vitamin B5, and natural conditioners to give you that prêt-a-porter glow. You simply leave on for three minutes and rinse off. The sachet will probably give you 1-2 uses depending on the length of your hair.

7. Colouring Pencils

Aside from the beauty you can also expect to see a pack of colouring pencils so there’s no excuses for leaving this month’s pretty designed box naked! Whatever your plans may be this month give it go as it does wonders for relaxing and rebooting the mind! It’s a fanstatic way to loose yourself, although my not-so-impressed husband came home to no dinner on Friday – whoops!

My Verdict

The Free your mind Birchbox is the perfect excuse to unwind and free the inner child within you with it’s first ever customisable box that just shouts “colour me in”! Inside the box showcases a solid line up that really encourages you to try products that you usually wouldn’t reach out for. There’s a great balance this month with lots of goodies on board and boasts seven items all of which are travel-ready, perfect for those of you who have summer holidays coming up.

I love this month’s box it’s definitely by far my favourite edition this year, it’s based around such a fun filled theme that not only sparks creativity but also breathes new life into our same old routines.

Whilst my house chores have taken a little bit of a back burner this weekend, it was lovely to take some time out to unwind. I will be sure to post my finished box via my instagram and twitter page so make sure you join in on the fun too as one lucky person is in with a chance of winning £500 worth of beauty goodies.

I’m super excited for June as next month all subscribers will be able to choose the design of their box.
