When you flash forward to today, there’s so many hair removal methods from the conventional razor, waxing, epilating and even laser treatment but my preference always leans towards shaving as opposed to the torture of some of the above so when US based shaving subscription box Wet Shave Club contacted me to review their newly launched shaving box for women I welcomed this unique and practical concept with open arms. There’s nothing worse than getting in the shower and discovering a blunt razor and a empty can of shaving foam usually resulting in sore and unsightly legs so to see a box filled with a luxurious razor, spare blades, accompanying soaps, a brush and moisturiser really is a monthly god send for those who want a much closer shave or simply want to master wet shaving .

Wet Shave Club brings the art of traditional wet shaving to their customers via a monthly subscription box and for us in the UK it’s a great introduction as it’s not something I’ve seen promoted here for us ladies. I use to be transfixed watching my grandad use similar products when I was a child and having not ever tried this form of shaving prior it was great to discover a new approach alongside receiving all the key essentials and clear instructions to get me on my way to summer-ready legs.

Wet Shave Club originally established their monthly box for men but have now branched out to provide something for us ladies too. In your first box from Wet Shave Club you will receive a premium razor, a brush for building a thick lather with your soap, luxurious shaving soap, pack of blades, moisturiser to keep your skin smooth and fresh, and an instructional card to help with the process. Any subsequent boxes after your first box will contain soaps, moisturisers and blades.

Intrigued by whole concept, I’ll be honest the Wet Shave Club Pink Shaver and the blades looked a little scary at first in comparison to what I currently use! The shaver itself is sturdy, heavy in weight, boasts good quality all over and it’s pink so that’s bonus. Alongside the razor you can expect to see a pack of blades within the box and there’s enough to have you covered for at least a month if not more depending on how often you shave.

After a little encouragement from my husband I put the razor to the test and whilst my current shaving routine is fuss-free and pretty effortless I must admit this took a little while to get use to on the first attempt but the results were amazing and completely worth spending that extra time.

Doing my utmost best to get my lather on whilst putting on my brave face, the Stirling Soap Co shaving soap pucks in Black Cherry and Strawberry Bubbly act pretty much like a shaving form and smell absolutely divine, almost good enough to eat and did not dry out my skin. The Satin Tip Shaving Brush plays an integral part in prepping the skin and its long bristles alongside the soap forms a thick and foamy lather lifting the hair making it much easier to cut whilst exfoliating the skin too. Once I was fully lathered up the razor did feel quite heavy but once I got the hang of it I felt more confident making sure I was extra careful at the same time. Twenty minutes later the results really did speak for themselves. There was no annoying razor cuts or bumps which was a major concern for me and impressively the shaver managed to give me a super close smooth shave unlike anything I’ve used before leaving my legs feeling much more silkier than usual. The final step (phew!) was applying the Whoos Soap Strawberry Citrus Body Frosting which is a nourishing and rich moisturiser for sealing in that smoothness and smells absolutely delicious.

My Verdict

In my case I’ll be honest I don’t have time to mess around, I want something that provides results with minimum effort and hassle during the working week however if you’re off out for the evening, on holiday or simply was to step up your routine for the summer it’s definitely worth spending that extra time especially now I’ve seen the benefits of wet shaving. The box itself has all areas covered and is a complete kit for those who want to discover the art of wet shaving. My first attempt has certainly got me more interested in mastering this technique and with more practice I’m sure the process will be much quicker.

Since I can remember, I’ve only been accustomed to my Gilette razor but for me this box is a complete game changer and such a worthwhile discovery containing key essentials that cleverly puts the luxe back into shaving. Whilst it was daunting at first, I’ve really enjoyed my first attempt at wet shaving and equally impressed with box and the results but in terms of the subscription I don’t think I would personally get the most out of this on a monthly basis but the price itself including shipping is very reasonable. If the women’s box was bi-monthly or quarterly I would definitely consider subscribing as it’s such a quirky and luxurious approach to shaving that also gives you an opportunity to try out some products from the US.

If you’ve not tried wet shaving it’s something I would urge you to try and the Wet Shave Club Box delivers everything you could possibly need to get your legs feeling and looking baby soft for the summer.
