The August 2015 You Beauty Discovery Box has landed and as always I couldn’t wait to see who they had on board this month. Centered around the theme ‘Summer Essentials’ the shortlist features a good balance of beauty but for me the line up was a little underwhelming compared to previous months. So with this in mind the only two products which appealed to me was the StriVectin Intensive Illuminating Serum and the Inika Mineral Bronzer. As well as my picks the box included two extra treats in the form of four chapters from The Mortal Instruments 1: City of Bones book and a self-tan sample sachet from SiennaX.

“You Beauty Discovery” is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get choose two products of your choice from both well-known and emerging brands and they also throw in 2-3 bonus samples. Each month you’ll find a shortlist that’s been centered around a theme.
1. StriVectin Intensive Illuminating Serum – Sample Size 7ml. Worth £18.43
StriVectin isn’t a brand I’ve come across before but this multi-tasking formula targets quite a few of my skin concerns. The serum claims to enhance the skin for a “brighter, more even complexion, diminish dullness and intensify luminosity, minimize the look of spots and discoloration, and restore skin texture for a soother, more radiant appearance.
I was expecting a gel-like texture but instead it’s quite creamy whilst being on the light side too. It absorbs very easily into the skin and does not leave any greasy residue.
I’ve been struck down with a cold so was hoping this would perform a little magic on my skin but since I’ve been using this it didn’t illuminate my complexion or intensify the luminosity so if you’re looking for a quick fix unfortunately this isn’t one of those products, although it will be interesting to see how this works over time. The full size retails for £79 (30ml) so I think the 7ml is quite generous in size.
2. Inika Mineral Bronzer in Sunkissed – Full Size 3.5g RRP £20.50
I’m not a fan of loose powdered make up mainly because I’m clumsy and end up getting product everywhere but Inika is a make up brand that I really love so thought I’d try out their Mineral Bronzer and I’m so glad it made it inside my box.
Inika are a 100% natural make up company, that offer a wide range of paraben-free, cruelty-free, and chemical-free make up and skincare products. They pride themselves on creating products made from only the finest ingredients, without compromising on quality.
Suitable for both fair and medium skin tones, Sunkissed is a little darker than what I usually reach for, but once blended out it gives a lovely bronze glow that looks really natural. You don’t have to use much to achieve your desired look either as it’s quite pigmented and the fine shimmer isn’t too sparkly so there’s no fear of looking like a disco ball!
This month, You Beauty Discovery included two extra treats in the form of four chapters from The Mortal Instruments 1: City of Bones book and a sample sachet of Sienna X Gradual Glowing Self Tan (15ml)
My Verdict
This month’s shortlist isn’t the best line up I’ve seen from You Beauty Discovery but that being said it’s still one of the best valued beauty box’s on the market that gives you a great opportunity to sample products from well-known, loved and emerging beauty brands. Whilst I’m happy with my picks the extra’s this month didn’t really excite me but I’ll definitely give the self-tan a try.
The value of my box is worth an incredible £38.93 beating the actual cost of the box and includes very generous sized samples, perfect to judge whether you like them or not. The magazine within the box also includes various discount codes for all of the brands featured this month which is great if you want to purchase further products.
One of the aspects I love about this box is that I have full control of what’s inside as well as receiving some additional bonus samples too. If you’re new to the beauty box concept then this is definitely a great box to start off with.
