It’s no secret but I was a little disappointed with last month’s Look Fantastic Box even more so as it was their birthday edition but thankfully their October ‘Hidden Gems’ edit is definitely an improvement in my opinion and thankfully there’s no repeats – instead I was welcomed to lots of new things to discover which is exactly what these types of subscriptions are all about! Focusing on all things self-care and pampering as we transition to autumn they’ve included a mixture of makeup and skin and body care essentials in the form of full sizes and good sized samples.
Without further ado, here’s my unboxing and thoughts on this month’s curation:
I’m a huge lover of blush as it’s basically the only thing that makes me look alive so I was pretty excited to see a full size Pixi Fresh Face Blush in the shade Beach Rose amongst the line-up! I’d say this blush is pretty much on-par with what I’d expect from Pixi, it’s smooth, has good pigmentation and is fairly easy to work with plus the shade is a good option for my pale skin and gives a natural radiance that isn’t too over the top!
Moving onto skin care we have the Talika Bubble Mask Bio Detox (x1), an innovative foaming charcoal mask that contains thousands of nourishing microbubbles. Transforming into an oxygenised foam when put into contact with skin, the formula draws inspiration from celebrated Korean skincare methods to offer effective detoxifying and hydrating properties. It’s enriched with Bamboo Charcoal to unclog blocked pores and banish impurities and utilises a dose of infrared light to stimulate circulation and cell renewal, resurfacing the skin for a completely cleansed effect. I really like the sound of this mask and am yet to try a bubble mask so I can’t wait to give this a go!
To amp up our winter skin regime is the Monu Night Renewal Complex (Travel size 30ml) which works to refresh and rejuvenate the skin. It’s described as a lavish cream containing Marine Collagen and Polysaccharides which work together to smooth fine lines, restore firmness and prevent premature ageing. It also helps to improve the natural elasticity in the skin, soothe, hydrate and nourish to give you a crystal clear complexion. I do like a good night cream and although this states it’s suitable for normal and combination skin it left my skin looking rather greasy the next morning.
Up next and perhaps my least favourite out of the box is the Prai Throat & Décolletage Cream (sample size 15ml) mainly because anti-ageing products just don’t excite me, having said that though I should really start looking into this area of beauty! This lightweight formula is designed to target ageing skin and works on the throat and décolletage, both prone to sagging skin, the crème seeks to achieve a visibly firmer appearance. It’s enriched with a potent blend of Mulberry, Saxifrage and Grapeseed Extracts, the formula reduces the appearance of age spots and other forms of discolouration.
Across the years Dr Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm has pretty much made it inside every single beauty box and for the first time in 14 years they’ve finally released some brand new products in the form of 3 new lip tints so it’s nice to see this brand new launch amongst the contents. The Elderberry Lip Tint (Full size) is described as a sexy burgundy and the shade really rocks those autumn vibes. Instantly nourishing, this lip Tint glides over the lips, coating them in smooth, glossy colour. Working to heal and hydrate dry or sensitive skin for a softer, healthier finish.
The final item out of the box is the AHAVA Mineral Body Lotion (Travel size 40ml), a lightweight, fast-absorbing body lotion that uses the power of Dead Sea minerals to smooth and moisturize without leaving skin greasy or sticky. It’s rich in skin-friendly minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium known to increase skin’s moisture level which in turn provides all day comfort.
My Verdict
In comparison to previous editions which I’ve not been a fan of, there was a noticeable improvement inside the October edition and I really hope this example is something we can see more of as it’s been a long time coming. Although the line-up was made up of mainly skin care and not everything was suitable for me, it was so refreshing to see products that hadn’t been featured before plus they also threw in a few full sizes too. My favourites so far include the blush, the lip tint and I’m particularly looking forward to trying out the mask.
