I think December is probably my favourite time for beauty boxes as not only do they come dressed to match the festive season but the contents are usually more of a treat! My first review of the month features the Look Fantastic Beauty Box and if you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I’ve not had the greatest unboxing experience this year and although this month’s edit has some flaws it does contain one of my favourite primers and an eye serum that’s going to come in handy for all those late nights!
Up first and something that’s going to come in really handy for party season is the Dr Botanicals Apothecary Pomegranate Superfood Brightening Eye Serum (Full size). This blend of pomegranate extract and raspberry seed oil nourishes and protects the delicate eye area for smooth and brightened eyes!
On the hair care front we have the Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox (Travel size 50ml) which utilises plant-based actives and nourishing ingredients with a unique, cooling formula that combines natural Castor Oil Beads, White Willow Bark extract and Pomegranate Fruit Enzymes to gently exfoliate the scalp, providing a deep, intensive clean that eliminates clogging impurities, product build up, dry skin and dandruff to create the ideal environment for hair growth. It contains a potent blend of minerals helps aid moisture levels while absorbing excess sebum, extending time between washes, with Bean Bio-ferment working to neutralise UV light and free radical damage for optimum protection.
I love trying out new brow products but the Model Co Karl Lagerfeld Eyebrow Pencil (Full size) was such a let down due to the shade. Combining a high quality formula, it transforms thin brows into full, natural-looking arches with a high pigment.
It’s always exciting to find a good sized sample of something you already love and use and although the Illasmasqua Hydra Veil Primer (Sample size 7ml) was featured in 2016, I’m not too sad it’s made another appearance! The Illamasqua Hydra Veil is a hybrid between a primer and a skin care product, and whilst there’s no long-term benefits on the skincare front it’s designed to provide a quick fix solution for dry areas on your face and is applied before foundation to smooth the skin and eradicate any dry areas. With a jelly like texture, it glides on the skin, sinks in effortlessly and really does lend a helping hand in making your foundation sit and look better.
Up next we have the Spa to You Beauty Sponge (Full size) which is designed with both a rounded and flat edge to help blend your foundation to setting your make up with a loose powder.
Last out of the box and to help you drift off to sleep is the This Works Deep Pillow Spray (sample size 10ml) and it’s something that’s been featured inside many boxes including previous Look Fantastic editions! This spray aims to give you a relaxing and rejuvenating deep sleep and is formulated with natural oils such as Lavender, Vetivert and Wild Camomile which releases relaxing vibes so you inhale calm and exhale your worries.
My Verdict
When you’ve been receiving the Look Fantastic Beauty Box since 2014, those same flaws that I mention here time and time again tend to stick out a lot more as opposed to if you’ve only been a subscriber for a year! Having said that though, this month’s edition was definitely one of their better curations for me despite a couple of repeat products again! Other than the brow pencil (why beauty boxes continue to feature brow products that are restricted to only some subscribers due to the shade just baffles me!) everything else appears to be usable for me and the products were all good sized too. On the plus side their recent edits haven’t been so skin care heavy so it will be interesting to see what they bring to the table in 2019.
