It’s a new month and Birchbox have kick started May with such a gorgeous design for their Palm Leaves and Warm Breeze edit in collaboration with Elizabeth Scarlett– they sure know how to package a box and give you all those summer feels! I’m completely obsessed with palm-printed anything so this month’s box was definitely a firm winner and it was accompanied by a lovely selection of products which come in handy travel sizes. There’s also an option to upgrade your Birchbox to receive a beautiful palm print eye mask designed by Elizabeth Scarlett and has a RRP of £20.00 but you can get your hands on it for £14.00.

If you’re new to Birchbox they are one of the main leaders in the beauty box subscription market. Each month they’ll send you 5 deluxe sample and travel size beauty products (including the occasional full-size!) You can expect a mix of make-up, skincare, body, and haircare to upgrade your beauty routine.

Without further ado here’s what I received inside my May Birchbox (Contents may vary. Please see the May spoiler post to see what you may receive).

First out of the box is the Doucce Luscious Lip Stain (Travel size) and all subscribers will have the opportunity to pick their shade from two options. This dual action lip paint lets you to choose between a matte and glossy finish and provides full matte coverage, lasts all day without transferring or feathering and promises to apply smoothly and evenly, giving your lips a plumped and sculpted look.  I love matte lip products but if they feel drying and uncomfortable, I can’t stand to wear them for very long.  Luckily that wasn’t the case with this lip stain and I was really pleasantly surprised!  The formula is opaque, feels very weightless, wears very well and the shade Amber Rose is something I would have definitely picked out myself.

Sticking to make up we have the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Black Eyeliner (Full size £16.00) something that seems to be making the rounds again inside beauty boxes but I am relieved I received the skinnier version as opposed to their fat liner as I have so many! Described as an easy-to-apply liquid eyeliner pen that allows you to create thick feline flicks or fine defined lines to accentuate your eyes with a unique long-lasting formula, which includes key ingredient algae extract for a gratifying, colour-intense, smudge-proof finish.  I love the tip, it’s super thin so even if you are new to eyeliners you will not have too many problems using this.

Moving onto body care and no stranger is the Greenfrog Botanic Geranium and Peppermint Botanical Bodywash (Travel size ), a product I’ve really enjoyed using in the past so it’s a very welcome addition. Suitable for all skin types, it’s infused with an infusion of  moisturising aloe vera, calming geranium and cooling peppering oil which acts as a deep conditioner for your skin, leaving it hydrated, nourished and full of antioxidants. In addition to being cruelty-free, this is also organic and vegan. Did I mention, this smell so, so good and it’s the perfect shower companion when you’ve had a long day at work!

I’m not going to lie but I just don’t like these solid types of deodorants that are housed in a pot. Not only are they are a pain to apply but most of all I hate that I end up with more under my nails than I do under my arm pits! The Native Unearthed Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant Balm (Travel size) contains a gentle blend of activated charcoal, Coconut Oil, Whipped Shea Butter And Lavender Oil, It does also claim to be non- sticky, Stain Free and contain an extra kick of highly absorbent activated charcoal for long lasting odour protection. I will give this a go and who knows I might actually change my mind!

Last out of the box and a brand new launch from NUXE is their Aquabella® Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel (Travel size 15ml) and I can’t wait to give this go as it sounds perfect for my skin type. This facial cleansing gel is infused with natural blue micro-beads and cleanses skin deep down without any drying effect. It removes excess sebum and smooths away irregularities for clear, fresh and luminous skin.

My Verdict

This month’s Birchbox design just screams summer to me and being such a palm print obsessive I’d say this was definitely just one of the highlights that made this box so appealing! Design aside, I think this month’s edition was a pretty good all-rounder and contains some great summer staples, all of which are the perfect size for travelling. Another aspect I enjoyed is that the majority featured was mostly new discoveries for me plus it’s great to try out a new launch without having to buy the full size so I’m really looking forward to trying out the NUXE Aquabella® Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel. My favourites so far include the body wash and the lip stain (really happy with the shade) and as for deodorant balm I’m hoping it isn’t as bad as the one’s I’ve tried previously! As mentioned above, subscribers can upgrade their box to receive the Elizabeth Scarlett Eye mask – it’s so, so soft and is definitely one of the better quality masks. Did I mention its also scented with lavender to help you doze off to sleep!
